Palmetto Proving Grounds

This has to be a first for TBS. An article about the USC band. I remember 2 years ago when there were countless threads about how horrible our band was. I really didn't think the new band director could have such a major impact but she really did. They were a completely different band this past season. Loud, proud and fun to watch.

Great article. Nice to see the band get recognized. They have improved a great deal in two years.

Great leadership in the band and great support from the Administration. In addition, there has been equally great effort from the band members.

wish they would move our student section and band into the bowl where the visitors and their band sit. The bowl behind them reflects the sound out to the whole stadium. I remember the UGA and Bama bands and fans sounding very loud in past years. We also need to disburse the visitors into the upper decks and not give them a block of seats together, especially not in the lower sections.

That and have him lose some freakin weight. Remember the old mascot? I think it was called Sir Big Spur. Anyway that thing was a crackhead compared to Cocky now.

Awesome! To any band members past or present, and their families, thank you! Some may not understand the sacrifices you make, but most do, and the changes we saw last season made the game day experience in "our house" much more of what one would expect in a big time college atmosphere. Looking forward to what's next!

Thanks for the article. When we were in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game, it was embarrassing to see our band vs. Auburn and to hear the difference in the sound of the bands. This is not a slam against the band members at the time. I'm glad someone in our administration was embarrassed enough to say, "no more" and then go out, hire new band leaders and fund the band. Like so many other things (facilities, traditions, coaches, players) we were just lagging and needed to catch up which requires investment. Many thanks to our band members and last year was just great and our family looks forward to this year, new traditions starting with the Garnet Way walk and your performances.
