This decision was made years ago by lamestream media with Slick Willie who lied under oath (perjury). The media and most of America sat back and the defense was, "it was just sex."

Bobby P is going no where and his wife will "stand by her man" just like Hillary did.

I would prefer him gone. He might be a low-life weasel, but he can flat out coach football.

if the ad has any balls he will fire him. how can you have someone who lies to your face, covers up sexual affair with employee who got her job by having affair, to run your muti-millon dollar program with developing young people. he had the uni. put out info falsely to say he was only person in accident. look at his past, why was he hired by jeff long to begin with. one reason and one alone, WIN-WIN - AND WIN SOME MORE. if this is all they care about they will find a way to keep him. but because of how this has become a national issue and is not going away soon, many people(president, trustees, attorneys, doners, faculty, fans and ect.) will be involved. with all this involved, it must be decided soon, like a few days imp. i dont think they have a choice but to fire him in light of all the recent scandals in college athletics, but will winning trump the right thing? stay tuned!

Now that I'm kind of getting to be an old fart, I try to get "both" sides of a story; I took the time and found a couple of differing opinions. Low's post that JW posted is kinda a combination of Pat Forde's post on Yahoo sport NCAAF page and the post on Arkansas 247 site's front page for a post by one of their regular contributors. Am trying to be objective here and considering this instance on its own, the affair(s?) are the family's business, the lack of being entirely/totally truthful and the potential for lawsuits (and possible NCAA infractions?) probably has the school's administration and lawyers puckered up so tight you couldn't push a pin in their bum w/ a jackhammer. If what Forde reports/writes is true, this is a self fulfilling prophecy and no one, anywhere, should be surprised - this was a when situation, not an if situation.

If I had to bet a 12 pack, I'd say he will be let go due to politics and legalities of being a state employee - not trying to ride the fence here, BUT we all know everyone loves a winner, the Upstate folks still revere their coach of 30 years ago, SO - if there are some boosters($ and politics) who want him to stay I would not be surprised in the least if he was kept one after some financial penalty and/or suspension. It would not hurt my feelings at all if he left, his personal ethics/morals may be questionable, but if you are honest w/ yourself the guy is an excellent offensive coach who just seems to wear us out.

This is really just not smart and displays an utter lack of understanding of either situation.

Hiring one's mistress to a state job is a big deal. There are lots of laws in place regarding hiring for state positions that usually have lots of "teeth" for parties who may be aggrieved by the process. Bet there was lots of folks who wanted that job.

UA will have no choice but to fire the girl. Guess what happens then? She sues UA for sexual discrimination. You can't keep the man who hired his mistress and shitcan the mistress. They both have to go. That's a big money lawsuit.

Probably will have one coming from the diving coach or whatever that was engaged to this chick.

Then you have the fact that Petrino lied to his employer about both his relationship with this girl and the circumstances surrounding the wreck. Made his boss look bad, real bad, in front of the national media.

I can tell you this, the AD isn't going to be the one making this call. There's a bunch of lawyers in a room somewhere trying to calculate the cost of UA's liability in all these suits if they keep Petrino vs. the possible economic and PR fallout of keeping the guy. If I was in the room, and making a call based purely on legal/economic concerns, I'd almost surely have to vote for the turnip truck. The guy is going to cost them untold millions and heartburn for his stupidity, but firing him now can make most of that go away instantly. And they can always hire another good football coach, and maybe this time they don't have to hire a lying scumbag like Petrino.

JMO, but I think the AD is pissed royally and embarrassed by the whole thing, and all things being equal would terminate the pos Petrino. BUT, there are the sticky legal issues, contracts, and complications because of her employment situation. I think the leave was a way to address getting him away from the program, which is what Long wanted, and give the lawyers time to sort through the potential repercussions of termination. I agree that there are lawyers hammering out things, and that will go a long way into the final outcome.

He released a statement that admitted a 'prior, inappropriate relationship' with her.

That is not in question at all. He is banging said 25 yr old, that he just hired into a state job. Then, he took her on a motorcycle ride, she was going all wandering hands on him, all the blood rushed out of his head, and they crashed. He then got a ride with some passerby, dropped said 25 yr old sexually harassed young state employee off at her car. He then lied to his boss, who then unknowingly lied to the press, about him being 'alone' on said ride.

I guess it sounds pretty bad.

Petrino acknowledged "a previous inappropriate relationship".

So yeah, he was banging the chick and had the University paying her to be his squeeze. That's his problem. Mike Price could have gone to a strip joint, but when he put it on his University of Alabama credit card he got fired.

like i said i have not heard if there was any sort of relationship. for all I knew the boyfriend could have been back at the office waiting on them to get back with his permission.

got to give bobby a little credit, 25 yo chick isn't bad for 50 something man. of course I haven't seen a picture of he either.

  • There is some reporting that there is no Arkansas law against hiring a sexual partner. Of course relying on sports journalists for legal analysis isn't necessarily very sound.

ESPN showed the clause in Petrino's contract that allows UA to fire him for misconduct "as determined solely by the university." So they're holding all the cards.

    Kelso Red

  • Seems like a slippery slope if they don't fire him. What would happen to any other employee? That's how it should be approached. Doubt it'll be approached that way though.

Kelso, to your "holding all the cards", the school has a royal flush, question is do they bet the house and keep him or do they fold and let him go. There is a recent former President from Arkansas who doesn't classify fellatio as sex, if the school is of a similar mindset then their football coach will be back next year. I would imagine the AD and chancellor are men who are full of pride - with egos that go with it. Ignoring all the potential legal ramifications, the school went to bat for him initially, now after the rest of the story, like C&L noted, his boss looks "bad" in the national media, I'm guessing the skids are greased for his being let go.

PS - check out the 247 website for Arkansas, now they have a post about recruits' reaction to the story, can't believe they would think it was a good idea, let alone post it, safe to say it's easy to figure out where the author/website stands.

Yep...State employees and law suits. The Arky ...AD will be told what to do by higher ups. This sets the bar..the state would open themselves up all kinds of ways...if Patrino is allowed to stay.
