  • A committment from #1 QB in the country could be pretty big in terms of momentum & finishing. I like Mitch alot, but if this kid wants to come to SC...I think you have to take him. I'm not so sure it would be an issue with Mitch. I mean, it looked like we could get him & Olsen @ 1 point. If SOS & GA felt he gave us the best chance at success, i think you have to take him...if he calls us.

IDK, happy w/ our QB in 13' whether it's both or Mitch

Sounds familiar. Can you say Steven Garcia?

Yeah, just think...we could have had John Brantley.

Christian Hackenberg's dad alluded to another MAJOR program that already had a big-time QB commit that has expressed interest. Not sure who.

  • If he wants to come you have to take the difference maker at the most important position of the team.

Mitch or any USC QB should welcome the competition.

With that said, SOS has proven to be such a stand up guy over his career(Bandits, Duke, UF, here)..if he told Mitch he's our guy and he's only taking one, then that ship has probably sailed.

Brantley was a bad fit for UF. Coaches didn't know what to do with him.

  • CM says its all about the team, so why would he care about competing with another QB? Its not like we won't be going after another great QB in 2014. If Hackenberg wants to come we need to work it out with Mitch.

Brantley made poor decisions when under pressure. He threw a lot of interception and could not avoid a strong pass rush. Our OL, especially during Garcia's first couple of years was not good. Garcia was tough and able to avoid the rush at times. Although Garcia made some poor decisions also I think you would have seen Brantley fair no better here than he did at Florida.

He was a bad fit, and here a hot sports opinion but he ultimately showed how weak of a coach Urban really is. Just like The Chad he's a flash in the pan, gimmick coach that when he doesnt have the kids necessary to run his offense, he's unable to adjust and put his kids in a position to win.

I'll cite the job that HBC did last year as an excellent example of what a coach should do, which is mold his offense to the strengths of his players, not try to fit a square peg in a round hole and hope that it fits. The fact that Urban just quit on his team and came up with the BS excuse of having health issues was a complete cop out. Once he lost Tebow, he didnt know what to do with himself.

I'm sure he'll be successful at OSU (for a little while), but as soon as things go south those "health issues" will pop up again.

Bottom line, Brantley could have thrived in a more prostyle offense (that wasnt run by Weis, another coaching fraud) but overall he wasnt that spectacular of a player.

Brantley probably would have been a better player if he hadn't been stuck in such a ridiculous system for his abilities. But no one will ever know, really. Now, he knew going in what Florida did for an offense, so that was something of a bad decision by him.

look, I don't think Meyer's system is genius and I said as much when everyone was praising him to the high heavens.

If Lou Holtz had Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin in 2003 instead of Corey Jenkins, we'd have been a lot better and it would have looked very similar.

But Meyer pretty clearly can coach a little bit.

No one's system looks good without the right players. If Cam Newton succeeds Tebow, Meyer has three national titles.

VB, he won 2 national championships so yes, the guy can clearly coach a little bit. You don't just stumble into those and he did it while navigating through an SEC schedule. I wasnt saying that he is a terrible coach, his track record before he went to Florida is impressive in its own right.

But I contend that he's ridiculously overrated and is primarily the product of having extraordinary players. When the well ran dry (which it didnt because UF has been stacked day in and day out since the 90's) he crumbled and showed his true colors by using a bull**** excuse like health reasons to step down instead of fighting it out.

I dislike him as a person more than anything because he does the same crap that Dabo does using religion as a recruiting tool rather than exercising your devotion on a daily basis through your actions.Take the Sharif Floyd nonsense for example, the line he fed him during his recruitment about God coming to him in a dream and him seeing Floyd in a gators uniform...then quitting less than a year after he was in the program. He did whatever was necessary to get the #1 DL prospect on campus and used God to do it. Despicable.

Coaches shouldnt have "systems." They should be able to adapt to the strengths of the team because you arent always going to have the pieces to run your system. You can recruit guys that might fit the mold when you sign them out of HS, but if they dont work out, you're left out in the cold with your ^&*% in your hand.
