The chains are supposed to help with "explosive" power, as the previous poster said - the weight gets heavier as you lift it further. It's a common training technique.
Of course, it would be more impressive if they actually had any weight on the bar to start with. Those squats and benches are pathetic.

Yeah, I remember that CockFool. Also, just before this happened the camera showed Coach Elliott help one of their players up from the side lines & give him a gentle pat on the back.
