Whittle, I love you to death, but why write this article if you weren't trying to make your job any harder?

"It didn’t make sense. Morris already had his public scolding at USC Media Day earlier this year when Spurrier stood up and made Bruce Ellington tell reporters his version of the events leading to him taking a spot on the football team. Most of it was contrary to what Morris reported in a story published by The (Columbia) State newspaper last spring.

Just shy of two hours later, it all made sense. News began to break that fifth-year senior and former starting quarterback Stephen Garcia was dismissed from the team. Spurrier was heading off something with his Morris diatribe, but I’m not sure exactly what. He was using Morris to deflect attention, but why?

Some media-types speculated, long before the Garcia announcement was made, that Spurrier was trying to get the focus on him instead of a big road game at Mississippi State. Weak. Real weak.

If Spurrier had to recreate a circus prior to facing a .500 football team, his squad would need just as much “coaching up” between the ears than it does on the field."

Just seemed as if you were getting your shots in at Spurrier. entertaining night for sure.

The supposed spurrier did something crazy to deflect attention from Garcia story or the hundred other evil genius theories don't make a lot of sense to me. The media gossips may have arrived at that as their collective group theory, but it is much more probable spurrier was just pissed off at Ron Morris and wanted to act out against him.

I think the feud is I'll advised and his method peculiar, but I am sure spurrier did not appreciate being called washed up and ineffective coach after Ron has already accused him of stealing players, being a liar, doing whatever it takes to win, and perhaps being a cheater.

Not sure why anyone would think spurrier would need any other motivation than that. Conspiracy stories are fun, I guess.

For whatever it is worth, Morris says he stands by his story. There are some other members of the media who say they have the same information that Morris does, thus the defense. I don't know the ins and outs behind the Ellington situation and how it all came about.

You can't honestly think morris is subjective. He is a slimeball who makes his living p*ssing usc fans off. Its what he does, he cares nothing about integrity of the story. All he cares about is creating controversy bc then ppl talk about him. I say you sleep in the bed you make. The "state" newspaper has nothing to do with the State of South Carolina. I say all coaches disassociate with him. His "journalism" is borderline slander. I was a gogamecocks member but left and joined this site bc of him. There is freedom of the press but there is also freedom of speech, and if Spurrier doesn't want to speak to him so be it. I'm glad he finally grew a pair.

  • I gotta say I'm proud of SOS. I have been critical of him at times over the years but I think this was a win for him and our program. Of course this had something to do with the pending announcement of Garcia's dismissal. And why not? Spurrier and our program has been snakebit by moRon too many times to not know what the headlines would be tomorrow. He has taken the focus off of Garcia and whether it should have ever gotten to this point or not. Anything moRon writes tomorrow will be viewed as, "well he's just mad bc Spurrier called him out and won't talk to him anymore". What he did shows he is passionate about the program and cares about the players. I think the team will rally around him and it will make a good impression on recruits. Way to go Steve, don't help these reckless hack jobs who only hurt our program.

Kudos to HBC. It's time to call out those who are insecure and feel the need to tilt at windmills. Coach came here, I am convinced, not so much for the money, and I have no evidence of this, but to take on a challenge: make a winner of the Gamecocks. Never been done on a regular bacics. Why else? And to have this assjack continually throw rocks at a guy who could just as well be hitting the golfball anywhere in the world is unacceptable. I have seen references to some grass roots boycotting of advertisers with the State bearing fruit. Perhaps we can all pitch in. Buy one last paper, circle advertisers we're using and tell them clearly, we're gone, if they don't pull their support of the State.

    Go 'Cocks!

  • How come it couldn't be that Spurrier said exactly what was on his mind? He doesn't appreciate what Ron Morris writes and he won't associate with him. Haven't we all been in such situations where your only course of action is to disassociate yourself from someone? It could be that he has had enough. Ron Morris doesn't uspset me because I stopped reading what he writes years ago. He is irrelevant (to me anyway).

For those of us who have covered Steve Spurrier for more than a short time, it was easy to see from the second he walked in the door that he had something on his mind.

See...u should have let Tony post this....then u would have gotten like a bajillion upvotes.

  • If local media names of who stands by Ron Morris are being left out, then obviously "they" are all worried about the negative consequences of such actions...but that should be the case. None of that should be private - if you believe you're right or he's right, be willing to state it publicly.
On another note: Will be interesting to see how Morris responds. I have no idea...I do know they've never liked each other, so this isn't terribly surprising. On the BE football: "Others" (secret) have same info, but Spurrier, Horn and Bruce are the 3 main players, and all have given their story, that should be enough.

  • Way to GO STEVE! THE PRESS GETS AWAY TOO MANY TIMES PRINTING LIES AND THEIR BIAS OPINIONS!
THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FREEDOM OF PRESS, JUST THE FREEDOM TO LIE AND NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! WELL RON MORRIS YOU HAVE JUST BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE!

    Coatest

  • The problem is Whittle sounds like he believes his media boys might be telling the truth and Spurrier, Ellington, and Horn are not.
