Connor will be the best QB of the Spurrier Era

  • Connor will benefit the most from our prominent running game. He will be the 2nd leading rusher in '12 and his passing will be much improved with Lattimore keeping the defense focused on him. We have a good commitee of WRs to help in the passing game. I am confident CS will be better than any other and future QB that Spurrier coached/coaches here.

Connor can throw the long ball... he has a nice touch and can get it out there so the WR can make a play on the ball... that was a skill that Garcia did not have.... trying not to be overly optimistic here... but, we could be pretty good on offense this year even with Alshon gone.

  • The one thing I like about Shaw is I know he's not going to make mistakes and give the game away. One thing I can't say of any of our QBs since Phil Petty.....

  • Sounds like Spurrier is pretty pumped about more than one Connor QB

Havn't preached it but felt the same way. Spurrier never needed the most gifted guy. He needs the most coachable guy ant thats connor. I fully expect him to get to a point this year where he knows what to do with the ball on almost every play. That knowledge plus his option of using his legs will lead to one of the better seasons from a gamecock qb we have seen in a long time.

Some people have referred to Connor as 'not the most physically gifted', and I don't know if that is what you are implying, but that statement could not be further from the truth. Connor is the most physically gifted in terms of arm strength( which he does not get enough credit for), accuracy, intelligence, and speed/athleticism we have had since I can remember. Wright was the closest thing, but I would give Shaw the edge there too.
Anyways, Shaw is very coachable, and takes care of the ball. I agree that he is going to be the best we have had under Spurrier, and it will not be close. I think he will be on the short list of best ever by the time he is through.

Yes but that X factor 4.4 speed definitely adds so much more to making great decisions. The dude has skills...

Agreed. That wasnt my implication. I also feel he is very gifted. However, I think what will separate him from the pack of other quarterbacks will be his mental preparedness.

I had sadly lost all faith in Garcia especially after the stories from his fellow students that I was hearing

After seeing Shaw throw a few deep balls... I knew being raised by a coach he had it upstairs and the talent to throw

What I didn't know is how fast he was or how well he could run

Will Shaw be a pro qb? I doubt it

But he is smart and will get the ball to his playmakers while also occasionally making something out of nothing .

Lattimore gets a lot of deserved praise... Shaw should too
