That for years schools like Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and UNC have held themselves above all others as some sort of beacon of "what's right" in college sports? And surprise, surprise all four have had major scandals in the last 2 years.
Tressel plays it buy the book...except when he continually covered up NCAA violations
Manti Te'o had a heartwarming story that propelled him and his team to awards and honors....except that it was all made up and the school tried to cover it up
UNC is a prestigious university that holds it athletes to higher standards than other schools....except for the fact that they had practically and entire program set up to pass athletes along
Joe Paterno was an example of the perfect coach/leader of men...except for the fact that he and high level admins knew about child rape and did nothing to stop it.
All these schools are hypocrites of the highest order. They can say what they want about the SEC but none of our schools ever tried to pull any stunts like these.
They are being caught off guard by a new college sports media that actually investigates the narrative these institutions spout. For years they could basically tell any lie they wanted and build upon the myths they chose to sell....but now the game has changed. I do not think morals have eroded....just that it is much harder to hide it now. UNC...Penn State...Ohio State...they all have been crooked for decades,
It is also why the college landscape has seen unprescedented NCAA scandals. The media is digging up the dirt and it forces the NCAA to act.
But yeah....I find it extremely hilarious and like justice is being doled out when a higher than thou falls to scandal.

Don't forget about "beloved" so cal.
I think it's just a reflection of how much money is flowing into athletics these days. Where there is a lot of money to be made there will be corruption, people will cut corners, and things will be covered up. Basic human nature and its been that way for a long time.
These stories can be fascinating (or horrifying) buts it isn't like USC has a completely clean history of late. Certainly nothing of the magnitude of the aforementioned scandals thankfully.
Don't forget the football players at Notre Damn who apparently "alleged" to have raped a girl.
It's like the Queen of England dying while doing a donkey.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
