I sure hope this doesn't happen with his open dislike of HBC.
Like someone said in another thread, i would rather have ACC refs because you know Clemson is going to hold since the SEC refs don't call it.
How do they determine which games they are assigned and when is it announced?
i wonder if we have any say so?
I think they'll be acc refs but I might be wrong.
Visiting team ref group in our series. It will be SEC refs
When I was younger, I had a bumper sticker that said, "If I owned Hell & Clemson, I would rent out Clemson and live in Hell"
Thanks for the clarification. Well I don't want Penn W. Officiating our game.
Anyone know what his problem is with Coach Spurrier?
I hope not. He's a closet Clemson fan. My uncle knows him.
Hardly a 'closet' Clemspin fan when everyone in Summerville knows it.
Same here, also heard he is a closet Clemson fan.
My best friend from college is related to him and confirms he hates Spurrier, brings up the Auburn game last year when Wagers avoided HBC trying to get time out (HBC has no love lost on Penn).
Said Penn told him that when HBC met the officials that day in pre-game and saw he was officiating, the HBC said, well we won't get a fair shake today.
i remember there was alot of talk about him last year. but some people talked about some big calls he made favoring us in the past. and i also remember he was the head official in the miss st game last year, and he made a big call for us in that game. i don't remember what it was now, but i also remember alot of people did like him. all that said, i hope he doesn't officiate the clemson game. he said he always want to officiate one. it would be ok if i got to be one too.
Then, our AD should bring this to the attention of the SEC offices, and he should be prevented from officiating our games.
This thread is sad. I thought only Clemson fans actually knew the name of any refs (Ron Cherry).
We are better than worrying about refs. Let the Clemmors do that...it just looks silly.
Have you ever seen Penn Wagers officiate a game? He makes Ron Cherry look like Ed Hochuli!!
So where did Penn go to college? It seems to be a well guarded secret.
Your friend lied to to you. Matt Moore was the ref for the Auburn game.
No...Clemson game is too big not to have impartial refs. Did you forget Rod Gardner?
Penn does not call our games. He was on the field for one game last year because of an emergency substitution. I doubt that he would do this game for any reason. He does have to live here, any dubious call either way would be hell for him all year.
Hope he understands that REALLY well.
The only things that's known with 100% certainty is that Penn Wagers has never called a Clemson/USC game and has publicly stated he wants to call one before he retires.
It was the UGA game in Athens last year where he gave us a couple favorable calls. 1 was the offsides on the surprise onside kick. Bacarri Rambo's big toe was offsides. I don't think a horse race photo finish camera shot could have definitively said he was offsides. The other was we had someone dive under their punter, the punter tried to sell contact, and Penn just looked at him, shrugged, and smiled, not calling anything.
Quote from Wagers -- "I've never requested a game in my life, but my last game at the end of my career, I'm going to request the Clemson-Carolina game. I just want to work it one time."
Penn Wagers has heard more cuss words than Chris Rock's mom. He's dodged everything from beer cans to cell phones. And he's been called Stevie Wonder more times than, well, Stevie Wonder.
Travian Robertson had to change jerseys because he was getting held so bad in that game that it tore up his original.
Penn also did the Miss State game last year. One of the worst officiated games I ever saw. Despite whether or not he's out to get SC, he's just simply a horrible referee. That fiasco in the bowl game he did last year was the worst thing I've ever seen in any sport
That Miss St game was the worst officiated game I've ever seen. The absurd holding of our DL, the terrible call on Bruce, the fumble overturn, and the no call on Alshon's facemask are only a few. A Clemson buddy told me that game made Ron Cherry look like an NFL ref when it came to competence.
