Anyone know about this, another of their ridiculous "traditions"? Before the game, we walked down the street above their hill, saw the rock and these guys pounding a garnet and black drum. My buddy yelled "That's the only thing you're gonna beat today!" (Wish I'd thought of that line first.) Their fans started screaming at us. Sensitive bunch those orange & purple.
I just wondered why they put USC on it if they don't think we're the real USC .
You could have done what some of my friends and I did when we were in college. When we played them up there in 94 (or 96, but I'm pretty sure this was the '94 trip), a group of us went to visit some friends that had transferred up there. We had our water balloon launcher (some of my friends did some real damage with that thing even at USC... one even got caught launching off the top of one of the honeycombs) and took up a few positions far away from groups of Clemson fans. They had some sort of amphitheater up there where a band was playing. We took up position behind a concrete wall on a set of stairs going in some building and pelted the crowd, eventually bombing the band b/c they stopped playing and were cursing in their mic's. It was hilarious for us... I'm sure not so much for them. The only sad part was that we couldn't see who we were bombing b/c we didn't want them to see us or know where it was coming from. But it was still an epic night for a group of six or eight immature college students. Good times.
Wealth is the product of man's capacity to think.
There are no evil thoughts except one: The refusal to think.
I have a good friend who pissed on the rock that Dabo kissed. I understand now they have a protective case around the rock and security as well. 20 years ago, it was as easy as a boost from someone's shoulders right onto the concession stand roof.
They guard the rock and the statue of Thomas Clemson because several years ago some USC fans I think painted Ole Tom and chipped the rock. I think that is why they do it but not quite sure
In 1992, they claim a Carolina fan broke into their stadium and took a hammer to the rock during the week or night before the game. They have guarded it ever since.
When I was younger, I had a bumper sticker that said, "If I owned Hell & Clemson, I would rent out Clemson and live in Hell"
And their "ROTC" is supposed to be up to that task? What're they gonna do if someone wants to smash the rock?
"I used to walk up a hill to and from school in my days", says every Clemson student ever.
A USC fraternity attempted to take the rock and chipped it in the process
They protect it now and have a case over it the rest of the time
a citizens arrest just like their hero Gomer Pyle.
Only a bunch of redneck hicks enshrines a friggin rock.
