Ya'll need to check out the interview with Lawing on Gamecocksonline. He raves about English, and we all know he is not quick to compliment many people. He says he would like to redshirt him, but he's going to give him some reps with the ones and twos. He said "he's faster than Devin. You want to talk about some talent."
I like hearing this. He also said he won't get as big as Devin, but that is nothing new. He really likes the guy. Asked if anyone else was standing out, he said: "no, thats it." The only other guy I remember him talking about this way was Cliff Matthews. That is big shoes to fill, and it's early, but he's the anti-Steve Miller when it comes to sunshine pumping.

Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
Good post, my ninja.
would love to see him redshirt... Hopefully, with Clowney, Taylor, Sutton, Fordham, in the DE rotation we won't need him TY.. Let him put on 20 lbs of muscle and get ready to play next year.
Stood right in front of him during drills on Saturday night. Kid is beyond quick, just needs to put on some weight. Him and Mason were doing drills together and both have a quick first step. He has ridiculously long arms too. Seemed like Lawing's assistant was with English the whole time critiquing and assisting him with form. It was obvious to me that they are grooming him for big things.
I knew he would be a good one since watching his senior highlight tape. He was just too quick and athletic.

I have been to 2 practices...including last night and I will say yes, English is quick and defiantly needs to add some weight, but by far the quickest most explosive player in all the DL drills was Mason Harris...this kid will absolutely play for us at some point...after seeing him in many many drills 2 nights in a row, I now understand why they moved him to DE...if he can gain som weight over the next 2 years, we should be able to get 2-3 really good years out of him...6-3, 250lbs coming off the edge with his speed and quickness would be awesome..he currently is at 220lbs...I will say 1 more time that he was the quickest most explosive player in all of the DL drills and that includes #7... I really could not believe it...but I witnessed it.
I think that Antonio Allen was the quickest pass rusher we had the last 2 yrs. Everything changes when you have to put on weight. English can be an everydown d lineman. Harris will be an awesome 3rd down pass rusher, and hopefully he can put on the weight and maintain that quickness.
I have wondered when they are going to start lining up corners at end in the NFL on 3rd down. If you put Lattimore and Mike Davis at end, there is not a tackle in the SEC that could block them. It's just a balance of having the quickest guys out there, without risking giving up huge runs. It's a LOT different when the O Line attacks the defender, as on run plays, and when they fade back to pass block. That is why we did not rush Allen more.
I would hope almost any linebacker we move to DL would be the quickest and most explosive out of them. The trick is can he get to 250, and can he keep the explosiveness. Even then at 250, he would be sort of a liability against the run.
agree...he will be a 3rd down rush specialist. he is on the lanky/long side even at 220lbs so, adding 30lbs over the next 24 months in our strength program should not be a problem. Would be the next Chaz Sutton type player...bottom line is the kid is extremly quick explosive and athletic and will be on the field at some point in his career. went all out on every drill...Lawing praised his effort multiple times. In the LB drills, TJ H. was very impressive...between him and Cooper and Rolin and Bryant...man, we are gonna have some nice LB's for the future. 42/Diggs also looked great. Kid is the absolute prototypical Spur.
I think the development of Devin Taylor has been Coach Lawing best work yet. That being said I think English could be better.
