I was really disappointed with what I saw from him tonight on the link Gococksman provided. It's only one game, so I'm hoping he just didn't have a good game tonight. I would like to think a kid we signed would kind of stand out as the best player on the court, or at least one of the top two or three in a game. That wasn't the case tonight.
In fairness to Ringer, his team didn't really try to feed the post much, but when they did, Ringer had trouble handling the pass several times. Almost every time he touched the ball in the post he had to put it on the floor, and lost the balls several times in traffic because he had put it on the floor.
He didn't run the floor very well. I thought he played very passively tonight. He has a big body, but didn't seem to use it very well, so hopefully Underwood can teach him how to do that.
I think he ended up with either 5 or 7 points. He had nice touch on his foul shot, making 1 of 2. He probably had close to 10 rebounds, but most of these were on defense and Dorman didn't have a lot of height to challenge him.
I know all of this sounds awfully negative, but I thought some of you might enjoy a report from the game. And as I said before, it's unfair to say what kind of player he might be from the one and only time I've ever seen him play. If anyone else watched, feel free to agree or disagree. The best I got out of watching him tonight is he has more of an SEC body than a lot of big men we've gotten in recent years, and I know our coaches do a good job coaching up the big men.
I watched and your report is spot on. Looks to me like he needs a year in the strength and conditioning program.. Nice touch from the free throw line and definitely has the size we need...
The first game of the tournament he had 19 and 11 rebs. Hopefully that's the guy we get. We really just need him to get boards and play good post defense next year.
Fomerly known as Garnet&BlackAttack.
Me too. For all I know he was playing sick tonight. There's a lot of that going around. Also, three games in three days has to take a toll on a big man.
No one ever claimed Ringer was a kid that was going to come in and be an amazing post player, especially his first couple of seasons. In fact, WG doesn't sound optimistic on him ever being an impact player for USC. Go back and look at the reports. All along the reports have said Ringer is a kid that needs work on his offensive game, and will need to spend some time in the S&C program to get ready for SEC basketball.
The kid has played three games in a row and heaven forbid he have an off night every once in awhile.
Yeah, I was just expecting a little more than he showed tonight. Based on this one game, I couldn't even see why we would have offered, except for the fact we do need big bodies. I think I did cover the fact he had played three straight games and might have just had a bad night so as not to be totally unfair to the kid.
