For those of us who have "cut the cord" and just have access to TV via Internet and antenna: bad news. ESPN3 (WatchESPN) will be blacking out several games on the east coast, starting with the South Carolina-Vandy game. If you are west of Texas you can watch online, but otherwise you are out of luck. Plan now to find a place to watch.
Imgur is used to share photos with social networks and online communities, and has the funniest pictures from all over the Internet.
Ugh! Guess I'm going to have to go to BWW :/
Yup. I'm off to Wild Wing Cafe, I guess.
What about on the Espn Xbox live app?
That's using ESPN3, so I assume that's the same. If not, it gives me an excuse to buy a 360. So do tell me if you can see it, so I can let my wife know why I'm spending all fo our money
Nope, it will be blacked out on the xbox live app as well, unfortunately.
Why are they blacking the game out?
Maybe they took Franklin's request too literally?
Their stadium only holds like 40k people, and it is sold out, correct? Why in the hell would they do this?
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
First game of the season - they want numbers for the actual telecast to be as high as possible. Smart business move on their part, but it irks me.
I thought maybe they heard Franklin asking everyone to get involved in the "black out", and ESPN started scrambling to do their part.
Supposedly Franklin tweeted today tickets were still available.
I'm in Colorado, can I buy it somewhere?
Two grand boys, Two state championships. 5-peat USC
Colorado: available on ESPN & ESPN3.
The game is to be shown live on ESPN also, so it only affects you if you don't have a cable subscription with ESPN. In Colorado they may bump it to ESPN2? Not really sure.
Here's a smarter biznass move: show commercials on ESPN3 instead of that ESPN graphic and count views. Duuuh.
They are NOT blacking the game out anywhere. You simply have to have ESPN to watch it. That's true of all cable only channels, 100% of the time.
What is being blackened out is ESPN3, which is ESPN's internet service.
Yes, as 22Cock says, the blackout is ONLY for the East Coast, and ONLY for ESPN's online service, ESPN3 or WatchESPN.
How does the app recognize your location by your login credentials? IP address? I'm travelling internationally (China) and planning on using ESPN3 for the game but my comcast account is in Atlanta. Any help would be much appreciated, this would be devastating news if I can't watch the game...
I am confused. Is the game on ESPN or ESPN3? I only have access to basic cable so I will not be able to watch if ESPN3.
The game is on ESPN. ESPN3 is the internet streaming site for ESPN. If you have ESPN on your tv, you will be able to watch the game.
Yes, it recognizes it by your IP address. Your provider needs to have the agreement with ESPN. You probably won't have access at all, but there's a slim chance that ESPN and the country of China doesn't block it. You can test pretty easily - just try to see any game. If it does work, then this "blackout" won't affect you, probably. You can probably wait until the evening to watch the replay.
there aren't any commercials on espn3. or at least far fewer. ESPN has to pay the SEC its monies, and to do that it needs ad revenue. gotta start the season out in the black.
2013 SEC Championship Game: USC v LSU
Thanks, I'd hate to drive 17hrs just to watch the game
From what I've seen, there are just as many commercials on espn3. They just have a much smaller pool to choose from, so you get bombarded with the same one over and over again.
