Worse over the season. Martin bears some of the blame.
They stopped playing because they know they are part of the problem and not part of Coach Martin's solution and will not return next year.
Fomerly known as Garnet&BlackAttack.
Easy. our top three players off a horrible team (Harris,Gill, Hollaway) transfered and out top incoming player only played a semester.

"People always ask me if I wish I were bigger. I tell them no. I always wanted to be a miniature badass." Dustin Pedroia
Well the best guard on the team became ineligible midseason, the competition level went from laughable to decent, and bad teams generally get worse not better as a season goes on. Talent starts to tell more on good trams and bad teams lose their edge as their season becomes academic.
Martin deserves none of the blame. This team is bereft of talent and their record is what every reasonably knowledgeable observer of basketball expected.
How is it martins fault. He has no talent to work with. Im pretty sure there's hs teams that could beat us. Give the man time to get some players in here.
What if he is to blame? What then?
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
I blame people like you for agitating. I blame Martin for going to the tournment pretty much every year in his career. I blame "handlers" for getting in Harris's ear to leave.
I do not blame Martin's coaching. I am thankfully we have a coach of his caliber, looked at the challenge of the job and also recognized the opportunity, and said bring it on.
First, they are playing bigger, stronger, more athletic competition.
Second, 4 would be starters are playing for other schools.
Right now High Point NC has better talent that USC. Martin has to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. He will get better. I think everyone understood he gets a pass the first season.
Please detail where the blame lies with CM and tell us what u would have done.
Nonsense. Lou Holtz took over a dumpster fire and went 0-11 which was worse than the previous year. New coach, lack of talent and new system...no blame to be assessed.
1. No talent
2. Poor attitude
3. Inability to run offensive sets with any consistency
4. Terrible on ball defense
5. Poor shooters
6. Lack of toughness
7. Lck of legit height
Frank Martin has no control over this, he was put in charge of a team lacking in discipline and talented. He has pieced it together as best as possible, but if you have a lack of talent, you have to run your sets perfectly. Our guys are not able to do them to even moderate levels of success. Way to many people took close losses early and the big win against Arkansas as signs we weren't as bad as we all expected. People forget that this is a team that couldn't even compete with Elon.
1. as you get further along in the season your weaknesses are well known by all teams
2. losing LaShay Page and his 12+ ppg. The guy was the closest thing we had to a "go to" guy
3. if you have played organized athletics you know a team has a psyche. when you start losing close game after close game, you begin to expect to lose.
4. teams have learned that Bruce does not have his shooting touch due to yr 2 of football.
they don't play him to cover his jumper. They concentrate on trying to take away his drives.
5. none of these are driven by anything FM2 has done or not done. Is it his fault Leonard cannot throw it in the ocean from he pier? Is it his fault Geathers got hurt? or Page got himself tossed for academic reasons? what about Jackson not being able to hit a FT?
Basically we have a roster tht would be a good team in the SoCon but that would not even win that league. Elon already beat us. Davidson would and C of C could robably best us. Some will say Leonard was a 4 Star and Richardson was a fairly highly recruited kid and Slawson was Mr Basketball in SC as a sr. So what! what have they done at USC against SEC competition? Precious little. I do see improvement from Richardson bit zero from the other 2.
Upograding the talent on this roster is what it will take. Thornwell is a huge get. He'll be our best player from day1. Johnson at the point is huge. Ringer will give us the size and strength inside we simply have not had in recent times. Henry will be a huge get if he signs with us. Our inside game will be light years better with he and Ringer working the paint. If we can get Cook from the JC ranks, we'll have annother legitamite scorer to pair with Thornwell. I expect our fr. will imporove from yr 1 to yr 2. The class after this one is where FM will really make his gains. Strohman comes in. Everybody will be his kids. All but the newcomers will know his system. We cannot get there soon enough for me but ..... I am patient enough to realize we cannot from where Horn left us to where FM2 wants to take us overnight.
I have to admit I took the big win over Arkansas as a sign that the team was improving. I expected us to be able to win at least 3 or 4 more SEC games after that win. Now I would be surprised if we win another, and I would be shocked if we won 2 or 3 more.
You can look back over the somewhat recent history of college basketball and count on one hand the number of times a group of freshmen were able to maintain a level of excellence and success over the course of the season. Look at Kentucky this year. They are very, very fragile. Last year was a huge exception. The Michigan fab five was a major exception. Those teams consisted of the elite of the elite.
Our team has Bruce Ellington, who is an above average basketball player, but he's not a great point guard, so that renders him below average on a team without other options. Lashay Page screwed us and the team by not being able to pass a class, which took a senior off the roster who would've averaged 10 or so a game. Harris and Gill screwed us and the team by being pre-pubescent girls who couldn't hack a little discipline so they bolted. Horn screwed us by recruiting so many horrible players. Now Martin has had to play an entire season with a handful of guys playing many important minutes who ordinarily wouldn't even have seen the floor this season.
All in all, it's a disaster. However, we're in so much better shape than we were in a year ago because with Horn, there was no plan and no hope. Martin will right the ship. I don't know if we'll ever win the SEC again, but I wouldn't bet against him. We'll at least play hard and play smart, which we haven't seen here in years.
I resent you calling any athlete that wears garnet and black chicken shit.
When a teams goes out and gives it their best shot every week but they all end up as losses it starts taking a toll on your mentality. It's easy to say you're not going to let it bother you but it's another thing to do it.
You cannot compete on the SEC level or nationally with South Carolina high school players. Thornwell is an exception and he left the state for this season. Peak is another exception and he also left. The level of play is awful. Any given year, there might be 2 or 3 guys in the entire state who could play in the SEC or ACC, and usually they are Carolina or Clemson takes but would never be UNC, Duke, Kentucky, or Florida takes.
Martin needs to try hard to get maybe 1 guy a year from South Carolina to keep a good relationship with some in state coaches, but if he wants to win, he won't waste much time on anyone else from this state.
I think Leonard was rated so highly because of the performance that I saw him have in the SC v NC all star game his senior year. There were some very good players on that NC team, and he just lit it up that day. Scored 32, and had the game winning 3 at the buzzer. Obviously, that was an anomaly.
Slawson didn't have any other good offers. Richardson was a 2*. Bruce was an AA candidate, and he's really the only guy we have that would be starting on a team Martin would like to have.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
Same kind of CRAP some of the losers here and elsewhere were saying about Spurrier after his first few seasons here (esp 07, 6-6). Now most of them are the ones riding SOS's jock the hardest!! SMH,,,Fools never learn, now some of them want to start on CM. They are the losers, not CM or SOS!
Martin can't shoot it for them. Hitting 25-35% from the field is not going to win many games. 2014 will be the year to judge Martin
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.
Wrong as usual. If you dont think Martin likes Carrera and wants him as a starter the next 3 years than not sure you understand basketball.
He was referring to returning players. He recruited Carrera so obviously he liked him. So in this case, you are wrong.
