I have been a member on every USC recruiting site over the past 5 years, and if you believe that the negativity is only here you're sorely mistaken. In fact, this board has the least negative influence out there, as well as the best information. You need to keep in mind that this site is growing, and with more traffic comes more posters on the negative side of things. If you wanna pitch a fit and head elsewhere be my guest. You will quickly notice two things. 1. Information is not half as good on other sites. 2. Posters are way worse on other boards. That includes both "the sky is falling crowd" and delusional sunshine pumpers. Also keep in mind that if everyone shared the same opinion, this place would be incredibly boring.
I don't think anyone would disagree that both the amount and the quality of information on this site blows everywhere else out of the water. For a long time, though, this site was a lot more cordial than it has been for the last 6-12 months. I think most folks would look to get it back to that air of civility. Just my $0.02.
Not gonna happen. With more traffic comes more posters. When sites begin to grow, more kinds of people come out of the woodworks.
I don't think the new posters are posting negative things on a consistent basis though I do understand what you are saying about site growth being a potential contributor. It's the long time members who seem to mainly post when things aren't all rainbows and unicorns. Very rarely do the post after a big win or recruit commits.
While I agree with what you are saying, as most boards are a total mess, it is your last sentence that is the key to everything...
It's awesome for people to have differing opinions, it's those people who ATTACK those of differing opinions that is the problem.
this is true.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
You also know as well as I do that there are clemson posters on this board. We've learned that from other national boards. My point is that it's not gonna get any better, nor will leaving this site for another make it better. Some of these posters should head over to GCC for a day. They'll be running back.
The difference of opinion is what makes the board interesting. The attacks take away from some really good discussions. It has become more attacks than discussions the last few weeks.
DV feature to blame IMO
You may run like Hayes, but you hit like $*!#
I would respectfully disagree – The absence of civility is not easily measured by the DV application. The DV feature (in my opinion) generally eliminates the need to post any negative criticism and particularly anything which is vitriolic, condescending or insulting.
If one does not agree with a poster's comments, a click on the red arrow is evidence of that disagreement and provides a visual reference of the quantity of disagreement among the membership.
In the long run, the use of the DV probably contributes to civility on the boards.
I don't think so. personal attacks are the problem.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
Agreed. Downvotes and upvotes really have no relevance here. The only time those come into play is when someone lets it affect their opinion.
the nastiness directed at those who are critical of the coaching staff is absurd
cant rationally try and hash out whats going on without getting vitriol spewed at you
i would love to see those complaining ab negativity to post on the secrant for a day
People need to use the ignore feature more often...or their own, internal ignore feature if they feel using the one the site so graciously provides makes their Internet persona insufficient.
If you don't like a repetitive thread topic you don't need to insert yourself into it every time to police opinion.
Oh how funny, yet predictable... my last comment about booting people for not abiding by the rules got downvoted.
I come here to read the insider information and receive different views on topics that are important to me, as well as sometimes share my viewpoint. The insight from the members of this site is much better than TIF, or FGF. It is also a much more mature bunch.
I don't come here to argue. I can always do that with my wife.
No doubt Bom, to another post, many negatively charged posts are from long time members. This is the first site I've ever joined & did that as a present for my late Dad, I stumbled on to this site about the time it got started so don't have any others to compare to, just luck I guess. The head scratcher for me is posts blowing up the coaching staff, man I'm 50 years, am pretty much a good ole boy & there are couple of old sayins' that I've taken to heart over the years. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing & getting a different result, quite a few members here are quilty of it - some would say our coaching staff is guilty of that & honestly I agree w/ them on occasion. The kicker for me is another anecdote - If you don't have ANY control over a given situation then you are wasting your time worrying about it, just kills me that some here get twisted up over something they in no shape, way or form can affect - off the soapbox now, let's hope we close w/ Bryant & Moore and blow away all this first time visitors this weekend, on soapbox again, think about it folks, we've got a top flight DT from Kansas who contacted us first on campus this weekend.
