I saw that UF was pitching Matt Rolin hard on "SOS is old and will retire soon". If that was thier pitch, then what does this mean for Matt and other recruits?
I think he's still here for another 5-6 years
People have been saying that for years...If kids are smart, they ought to realize that wherever they choose to go, regardless of the age of the coach, that coach may not be there in 4 years either by his own choice or by that of someone else. There are no guarantees in life.
It will change very little as schools will still try to use his age him. We will continue to tell recruits that SOS is here to stay and they will continue to tell recruits he is not long for Columbia. Either way players will have to make their own informed decisions. Regardless of what people say every coach has a potentially short shelf life. Just ask Dooley, Ellis, Chizik, Skip and Embree. You may be somewhere only two or three years or you may be fired two years after a MNC. The bottom line is you commit to a school, not a coach.
As long as he grows a year older each April contract extensions will have no impact on recruiting.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
There's that shower of urine we've all grown to know and love.
"Love" might be a tad strong...
I'll defer to your expertise involving urine showers.
It was a 2-year extension. I knew SOS was awesome, but I had no idea he grew at the twice the rate of a normal human.
Funny thread to be reading.... the shower urinator episode of Seinfeld is on right now.
I put that on a tee. You owe me.

What's wrong with golden showers?
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
"I wouldn't trade the dirt under his (Roche's) fingernails for anyone else's soul"~ Coach Frank McGuire
Spurrier has to sell the point that he's healthy and happy and in no hurry to retire. He also needs to point out all the coaches that have told recruits "he old and will retire soon" and yet Spurrier has outlasted them. fulmer, kiffin, dooley, petrino, meyer, johnson, shula, tubberville, chizik, bowden, oregeron, nutt, etc...
And save 2, that's just in the SEC. That's quite a list.
Spurrier is one of the most stable coaches in the SEC. Other than maybe Saban and Miles, Spurrier is one of the least likely to be fired and essentially has a lifetime contract here. Everyone else is about one year away from being canned, as the Auburn situation showed us.
