Lattimore's injury yesterday and I will continue praying for him and his family. Like I and many said last year, if anyone can come back, he will and I believe if it is physically possible, that he will be back next year or the year after.
Now to my delayed post and rant.
I have NEVER been so disappointed with with the students yesterday and the others that were no shows.
If we were 8-0 coming off beating LSU and UF would there have been 1 empty seat? Whatever your excuse was yesterday for not being there, could you have done it over the past 2 weeks while we were on the road??
Almost as bad as the no shows was the 90% of the crowd that acted as if they did not want to be there. They acted like they were sitting on the couch at home watching a boring episode of the news. 90% were down right pathetic.
As i have posted here several times, we are the "12th man" and we are supposed to have an advantage by playing at home. I down voted a post late this past week because someone said that our fan base was stupid, but yesterday I was so mad that people would not get up and make noise while on D that I was thinking the same!
What a difference from the uga game!
I was standing up, yelling on every defensive down, trying to get everyone else around me to do the same, and most people around me acted as if I had 2 heads.
Throughout the game, minus the last 2 UT offensive series fans would start making noise on 3rd down just prior to the ball snapping. Hey 90%, that doesn't do jack!
The whole point of making noise is to make it harder for the opposition to communicate! Obviously UT did not huddle, Bray was yelling out signals, but the 90% seemed like they didn't want to interfere with what he was saying!
Big time schools know how important home field advantage is and know when to make noise. UT did not huddle, so that means you pretty much make noise from the time they run out onto the field when they are on offense through when the ball is snapped, then again once the ball is spotted through when the ball is snapped again and in between if you have the "breath" to do it.
1st and 2nd downs are as important as 3rd down. Surely, the 90% knows that.
It was just as loud at Wake Forrest this past Thursday night than it was at WB yesterday.
Is 90% spoiled? Really? What is it? Was the temperature too perfect? Do we need to be undefeated for everyone to participate in being a part of home field advantage? Noon game? phooey, 10% of us were loud and it was noon for us too.
We were 6-2 going into the game, but it felt like we were 2-6 and behind by 3 TD's.
I know everyone has a right to do whatever they want to while at the game, but we can make a HUGE difference. Football is an emotional game and the players, scholarship or not, feed of of us. Just ask uga players if you did not catch what they were saying after the game a few weeks back. Some of them were saying it was too loud to even think.
If we all want to win and I believe we do, and if we all spend our good money and Saturdays at WB, then why not be a participant and make some dadgum noise?!
We won the game by 3 points yesterday, but I believe we could have won by 14 points if the 90% participated.
I believe our fans want a top notch effort by the players every game, but we were not willing to be top notch fans every game or at least yesterday.
We only have 2 more home games, that's it. I hope WE show up.
I understand your disappointment, but yesterday was very weird after the injury. Most days I'd agree with you, but I couldn't have cared less after the injury yesterday. You and everyone else in the stands saw one of the most gruesome football injuries ever to the most popular Gamecock ever. I was numb and nauseated. I never got back into the game. I suspect the same happened to a lot of people. The students started to Marcus related chants while he was down and to see him carted off was heartbreaking. In hindsight, the look on his face made it even worse.
So in short, I agree let's get behind the team and Marcus and rally to make the rest of this season special. But give the students a break for yesterday.
Noon game. Poor forecast. Losses. It happens.
I wasn't there yesterday because my sons soccer game is more important to me. 12 PM kickoffs hurt families who have active children.

Jr. was looking for you.
I knew this would probably be a response, but it was that way prior to Marcus' injury.
I was upset by it as well. Haven't cried in a long time, but I definitely had tears in my eyes and have a few times since it happened, but we had a game to play and win FOR Marcus. I'm sure Marcus would have told us to do what we could.
And I might not have been clear, but it just wasn't the students that I was disappointed with - it was 90% of everyone in the stadium. The students that were there were on average probably louder than the rest.
I actually was impressed by the number of fans that were there about 5 minutes after kick off. Great deal more than I expected. Was not impressed with the crowd at the beginning of fourth qtr. lots of folks in the zone must have stayed inside.
Understand folks with kids' sports commitments, but can't understand why local leagues play on home game Saturdays. Seems like they could play Sunday afternoons. That said, I would have made the same decision as you.

I'm one of the 90% then. I've stated why. My wife's in the same boat. I stood up, cheered and supported as much as I could. It just wasnt there yesterday and suspect it was similar for others due to the injury. The crowd seemed pretty into before the injury to me. The previous home game was UGA and we came off two straight tough road losses. There is going to be less excitement in the air. And a noon start with some heavy wind doesnt make for the same atmosphere as the previous night and afternoon games.
chill out. Our east hopes are done. People are understandably down
Our fan base put it's worst foot forward all last week. Time to move on.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
No excuse and I agree with "tgfather" totally. The students didn't even show until 1/2 way through the 1st quarter. Terrible support and fan participation yesterday!
Yeah you're right. Someone should have let Marcus know, so he would've not shown up, like our sissified fan base.
No. Yours is a losers attitude. If the players did the same, we would go back to being mediocre. Sure im disappointed w lsu and uf L's w little chance of the SEC East.
I prefer to win, and i can be saddened by Latt's injury and still do my part.
i can be saddened by Latt's injury and still do my part. Heavy wind? Noon start? Oh my.
With your logic, can you explain why so many UT fans made the trip to WB? They have absolutely nothing to play for.

We sit in Section 13 (South Lower Endzone) and am lucky to be surrounded by fans that show every game and are into it with lots of cheering and noise making (especially when we are on D). That being said, my neighbors on both sides agreed that the atmosphere was dead and there was a lot of folks sitting on their hands. Granted, it went to a whole new level after Marcus got hurt but it definitely was a more subdued crowd even before that. I have to agree, the student section was pretty bad. I was also surprised by the number of Vols that made the trip. They were a fairly loud bunch considering where their team is this season.
Good job captain gamecock
I know mentally I wasn't into it after latti went down. 1st time in my life i didn't care if we lost. I was def back into my cheering ways on the last 2 possessions for Tenn...

Anybody who cares enough to be on this board on a Sunday afternoon reading about Gamecock sports should be fed up with the student situation at the very least.
I honestly don't know what the problem is, but it is beyond the point of irritating. The excuses that get thrown out are numerous and quite frankly, pathetic. Somebody actually said "poor forecast". I'm sorry but that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard in my life. God forbid the wind blow these sissy students Bieber haircuts out of their faces.
I've harped on this repeatedly, but that football team sacrifices things most students take for granted, and they do it all to represent them!!! Because they love the university just as much, probably a lot more than, these idiots who leave mid 3rd quarter in a fight like we had yesterday. All those sacrifices and all that love were both displayed yesterday. Yet, many students apparently had more important things to do than show up or stay and support them.
It's complete BS, and every reason for it is nothing more than an excuse.
