SoCals Marquis Lee is better than any of our receivers, Ill give you that. As a whole, looking at the collective group, you cant prove to me that any of those teams have a better group of TEs and Wrs. Hopkins left too if you didnt realize
I can't "prove" anything. But all of those teams have better returning players than we have. Here is your argument "proving" that USC could have the best receiving corp in the nation...
Bruce - Came on at the end of last year. Lead the team in receiving and showed he could be a go-to guy. Does that mean he is better than Brandon Cooks, Austin Hill, Josh Stewart, Amari Cooper, Mike Evans, and Marquis Lee? No... he is not. And chances are that he still wont be next year. You think those guys arent going to work all spring summer and fall to be better than they were a year ago?
Byrd - Sure he had trouble with dropping passes but he caught some long ones! That is awesome but he number one thing you have to do as a receiver is CATCH the ball. I hope he gets it turned around but so far he has been a disappointment.
Adams - Made two or three memorable plays all season. For whatever reason he didnt have the season that we imagined. A lot of that has to do with the guys in front of him playing well but it isnt like we had a TE with 700 yards receiving, You didnt even mention Buster who I think will have a bigger year than Adams.
Nick Jones - Again. two or three memorable plays all year. You think he is all of a sudden going to get 1000 yards? They are already talking about Kwinton Smith taking his spot at the B. What does that say? To me, it doesnt say that Kwinton Smith is the next Sidney Rice. It just says that he might be a better option than Nick Jones...which isnt saying a whole hell of a lot.
S. Jeffery - A talented player that has never caught the ball and has had work ethic issues finally started working out in the weight room. I think we can all agree that he has proven less than or equal to any other receiver on any of the teams I mentioned. All of those teams have talented players on their roster...and some of them are more talented that Jeffery. At the very least the 2nd, 3rd, 4th options at those other schools have at least gotten in a game and caught a damn ball. Shameir has just goofed off on the sidelines.
If you want to refute any of those points feel free but I think any person with half an ounce of sense can see that you are reaching and im being realistic.
Lee is preseason heisman candidate hi will have more yards than any receiver we have. Like the other poster said shamier and a few others have zero catches. Not to mention we have a mobile qb who in three years loves to run. One I don't think we throw enough to have the best and two we are way unproven to have the best. And don't say anything about a closet fan because I drove to every single game. I'd love for us to have the best wr group if it puts us 12-0. If it takes Davis and wilds to be 12-0 then so be it. Just win!
hence the title, IF Shamier steps up and becomes as sure handed as his older brother. I can agree with u I am going out on a limb and saying this, but after the season lets have another talk about this subject.
Changing gears, do you think we have one of the bbest defensive lines in the country? Im interested to here your opinion on our Dline now
Yes I do believe we have a top 5 DL in the country. We have one of, if not THE best individual lineman in Clowney. On the other side we have Chaz Sutton ready to step into the starting role. He has been here for 5 years and has made plays the last two. I believe he had 4 or 5 sacks and applied some pressure. Kelcy has been a starter for over a year and while he hasnt been as dominating as we expect he is still a great lineman. Surratt showed enough in games to tell me that he can replace Byron. English is the wild card. We dont really know what he can do yet because barely played last season. But that little bit of playing time is still enough to help him this year because it wont all be new. And that is more than Jeffery can say.
Edit: Notice I did say Clowney might be the absolute best DE in the country. The entire country. I can pump some sunshine too...but only when it is warranted. And I didnt say he definitely is bc there are some other freaks out there...but he is at least in the discussion for #1. Our WR group is not anywhere near that discussion.

Let me start by saying I like Wilds. I think he has great patience, and vision. That said, he is about as slow as any RB in the BCS, and he is not going to make anybody miss in the open field. You pride yourself on being realistic, and reality is that Wilds is not in Davis's league talent-wise. Patience and vision are very important traits for a RB, and Wilds has shown he can be successful. His ceiling is about a 12 yard run, though. I'm not sure if that is a bad thing. Davis is a threat to bust one for a TD anytime he gets the ball. That is the difference.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
I agree with this
dude what are you talking about?
closet gamecock? why b/c he's being a realist and not a homer?
IF ace would of comeback? you didn't say that in your OP you said without Ace we could have the most explosive set of WR's in the country. he's not back so therefore we have ONE proven receiver in Ellington. Byrd needs to be more consistent and the rest we don't know a lot about other than practice reports, star ratings and limited PT.
now you're including TE's in your argument to prove your OP??
people are getting emotional. What else are we going to talk about between now and spring practice. We could have dominate WRs or we could have largely ineffective WRs.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.
This is not meant to sound like an arse but you have no idea what SOS thinks. I have talked to him very recently about our wrs and he is very high on their potential and believes Bruce has just as much talent if not more than Ike Hillard. Loves Kwinton Smith and expect to.see J. Adams a lot at Wr.
I dont know who is better but the comparison is unfair given that they have not played behind the same ol. Imo Wilds had a better ol.
This message is for the benk.
Most . Explosive . Set.
The comparison to Ike Hilliard is apt, IMO. As a junior, IH caught @ 47 passes and averaged 19+ ypc with 10 Tds. Hilliard was a complimentary receiver, though. Reidel Anthony was the star of that group of WRs.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
Interesting, very interesting
I don't know why people think clemson's WR GROUP is so good. They have one guy who has done anything. Granted, it was a pretty good anything. They do play in the ACC. I doubt we throw it enough to have the production to get the analysts going. I do think this is a deep group, and we won't have anybody out there who is just a blocker.
Not sure we have depth at WR. We have 1 returning starter at WR and 2 others who played a little. We have no idea, at this point, what else we have.
If CS is behind Center, we will never ever have the most most dominant or explosive, or even productive WR's in any league. Not knocking CS, but thats just not his MO.
I believe Wilds is actually faster than Davis. Check summer and winter workout reports. Your entire argument is just wrong.
Davis had more stars while wilds has more yards.

That may be quite a reach.
