the BCS National Championship game? We should have beat LSU, I know its tough to play their but that game was ours. UF we were never in but it should have been a close game into the 4th quarter and been decided on a big play one way or the other.
Yes, easily. If UGA is with their weak schedule, our schedule would demand that we be in the conversation.
I don't think the LSU game mattered a whole lot to the big picture, but we needed to beat Florida to go.
If we beat LSU and us, UGA and UF were all tied, what was the tiebreaker?
If we had beat Florida, and assuming Georgia would still have beaten Florida, Carolina and Georgia would have tied for first in the East and we would have won the tie breaker. So, yes, we'd likely be playing for the BCS title game.
Correct. LSU mattered a whole lot.
Head to head winner of the top two ranked teams in the BCS
Right, so like I said the LSU game probably didn't matter a whole lot but we had to win the Florida game.
LSU game didn't really matter. We had to beat UF. Period. A win in the Swamp would have given us head-to-head over both UGA and UF, and by virtue we would have won the East even if UGA had the same SEC record. If we win that game we are playing Alabama this weekend for the SEC title and BCS Nat'l Championship game appearance.
Makes me sick we gave the game away with careless turnovers. If we played UF 10 times - at the Swamp - I have no doubt we would win 7 out of 10 times. We are a better team overall.
If we had beat LSU but lost to FL, that would have made a 3 way tie with SC, GA & FL all with 1 loss. I think it it would have come down to the BCS rankings so maybe.
If we had beat FL but lost to LSU, that again would have been a 3 way tie BUT our 1 loss would be in the west and we would have beat both GA & FL head to head and we would be east champs in the same postition that GA is today.
No. Youre still wrong.
If we had beat LSU there would ahve been a 3 way tie for first in the division regardless of the loss to florida. It wouldve come down to BCS ranking at the end of the year and given our schedule we likely wouldve been in the drivers seat.
The LSU game was a big deal. If we won either game we'd be in Atlanta this weekend.
Had we beat LSU but still lost to Florida, I don't think we would have been ahead of Florida in the BCS though. On the other had we won against Florida, we'd be playing for the SEC Championship this weekend.
I am not sure that is correct. Had we beat UF, we would not have gone to any type of BCS rankings tiebreaker b/c our loss would be to the West, and UF and UGA's loss would both be in the east. The first tiebreaker goes to head to head, which we would have over UF and UGA. Second would go to Division wins I believe, which we would have had anyway.
B. THREE (OR MORE) TEAM TIE
1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
3. Record of the tied teams within the division
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
Read the topic of the thread.
Its not about which was more important. I will absolutely defer that the florida game was MORE important than LSU - we'd have won the division outright had we done so. BUT, you cant discount the fact that we would have been a &*(% hair from being in the BCS title game if we'd won in Baton Rouge. theres no way of telling how things would have shaken out had we won at LSU.
I read the topic of the thread and like I already posted, I still think had we beat LSU but lost to Florida we still may have missed out on the BCS title game because I feel Florida would have still been ahead of us in the BCS rankings, but you win since you are adamant on trying to discount what I'm saying.
No we wouldn't have miss out if we had beat LSU guys. That game was very important and as poorly as we played, we had every opportunity in the world to win that game. Spurrier was as intense on the sideline of that game as I've ever seen him against a western opponent. He knew if we win that one, even with a loss at The Swamp potentially, we would have played our way into the SEC title game. UGA would not have passed us due to us beating them and the schedule they played. UF's loss to UGA and the timing of that would have itched us right in front of them imho. Hypothetically, we would probably have a BCS top 10 looking like this if it would have played out that way: 1- Notre Dame 2- South Carolina 3- Bama 4- UGA 5- Florida 6- LSU 7- Oregon 8- Stanford 9- Texas A&M 10- Kansas State.

They wouldn't have skipped a 1 loss SEC champion
