Big reason is because Spurrier isn't as active in recruiting as other head coaches. Which I really don't mind because he's one of the best coaches in the nation. But honestly it really boils down to schools recruiting against us. The main two reasons I would wager is 1. no championships and a uphill battle in the best conference 2. Spurrier will soon retire, and we'll be back to mediocrity. Number two is the main reason why they keep giving him an extension every year, to assure recruits he'll be here for their whole stay.
Other than the LB position where is it we are struggling. Also, we have like 4 LB's committed already for 2 positions. How many do we really need? Also, who's to say maybe these LB's do not like our 4-2-5
Not exactly accurate since we changed 6 coaches last year after half those wins, but I get your point. The answer is somewhere in the middle. People shouldn't freak out and say fire everyone. At the same time, just b/c we are winning games doesn't mean everything is perfect with the staff.
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
Honestly I'm more worried about our secondary, and felt the Langley loss was worse than any LB miss.
So once Spurrier retires Tanner won't hire a good Coach. It's over. LMAO.

WTF are you talking about? When did I say that was the case? If you re-read my post correctly, I'm saying that's what other schools pitches are. I have no doubt that Tanner will hit a homerun with the hire.
I don't agree with that sentiment. If AD Tanner is willing to spend the money he'll be able to hire a quality coach. There are posters who have predicted a decline in our FB program once Spurrier retires.

Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
You've sold for lots of Fortune 500 companies?
It's always the same old crowd whining and berating our coaches and administration. I wish JC and Tony would take out the trash.

You have said that our lb recruiting has been bad for some time.
"Actually, our LB recruiting has been pretty poor."
What positions, last year and so far this year, have we recruited players of lesser talent and potential than the players they will be replacing?
It comes with the territory. It happens on every message board, and you can't just ban people for being negative. You would lose half your subscriptions.
This means a lot coming from the same guy who told us Tennessee hiring Butch Jones cemented the fall of their program. Your keen intellect and reasoning really shines through yet again with this post.
This is the exact type of reactionary garbage that doesn't help anything. You'll be right back on the train the next time our coaches grab a big commitment. People love to forget that Cedrick Cooper wasn't really even publicly on the radar a couple years ago at this time. Things change very quickly in recruiting. Furthermore, everyone acts like we've been winning with these big time recruits at LB. We've done it with the same caliber guys we're signing now. Just cut the drama and quit acting like losing a JUCO recruit is the end of the world.
Listen, I agree that people are entitled to their opinions and critical debate is necessary. But when certain posters are ALWAYS whining and complaining, it's obvious they have an agenda and imho forfeit their right to honest debate.
Don't know much about Botkin as a recruiter, but he did a hell of a job coaching LB's this year. Our LB's were down hill and active, much more than in previous years. I'll take Kirk over some slick little dude who can close the deal but can't piss a drop as a coach.
since they coach my team for my university, ok, if i provide cover, fine.
make me a sunshine pumper. by not running about like chicken little screaming the sky is falling this makes me a sunshine pumper. i am fine with that
glass half full or half empty. your decision.
5 in a row
Here is the issue. You don't have to take one or the other. We can hire a coach that has the ability to do both very well.
"Those who live in the past are cowards and losers" -- Mike Ditka
In a Pollyanna world, why don't we just sign all 4 & 5 stars, make sure they eat lunch and ride the bus to the stadium? If it's so easy to coach great players, why haven't all our past big time recruits been 1st rd draft choices? How can Brad Lawing take guys in under the radar and make all-stars out of them? Developing players is the # 1 job of an assistant coach. The head coach sets the ultimate tone for recruiting. SOS is being hammered on the recruiting trail by opponents saying he's gone in 1 to 2 years. Not fair, but hurting us in recruiting. This is why you lose guys, not because an assistant can't recruit.
"Talking about history is a hurdle that prevents you from creating it" ---Ray Tanner
If the posters who, in your view, ALWAYS whine and complain were banned, who would you whine and complain about?
I know what we tell recruits is the truth. Is anyone here suggesting we change that. I have no idea what other schools tell recruits, but I can guarantee you, it's not all the truth. What part of winning 10 games don't some of you like. If some of you expect us to have top 10 classes every year, you're dreaming. If we stay in the top 20 every year, and get 10-14 really good players each year, we'll be fine. If you don't like the product, stop buying tickets and going to the games.
My guess is that there are glaring weaknesses on every staff when it comes to recruiting. Overall the recruiting has been very good when compared to past years.
