Salvaged this guy from the shadows of Dabo yesterday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this first time dog owner.
The best way to potty train is to catch them in the act and scare them. Putting their nose near an accident means nothing because they can't make the correlation.
You may run like Hayes, but you hit like $*!#
Cute little booger. Get a crate, and take him/her outside a LOT when he's so young. They can't hold it when they are that little, so be patient with the housetraining. Just going outside on a regular basis will get him used to it, I'm talking at least once an hour. I've had dogs my whole life, so PM me if you need to. Good luck, and congrats.
Also, look around your house, and puppy-proof it. They will chew on everything. It's kind of like having a baby crawling around.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
Cute Pup. What did you nameit?
Agree. A crate will become his home and dogs won't poop in their home.
Since it is an English Springer we named it Sir Bogey
got the crate. He did well last night, slept most of the night in the crate. Set an alarm to take him out every 3 hours or so. Only really needed to go out once before 7.
Seems to be taking to the crate as his space and will go in it without much of a fight and sometimes on his own.
Won't dispute you but it surely worked for my Grandmother with her cats.
Funny this post is here I am out with my 3 beagles right now, add an old shirt that you have just worn in the crate and he will associate the crate with you and will be more comfortable you can also use the old pee in the yard trick because if that's where you pee thats where he or she will want to pee.

"He's a beaut Clark!"
Seriously, he's an AWESOME looking pup! Great way to keep your wife's 'motherly' needs in check and one of the best friends you'll ever have. Congrats!
You can't see! I can't see! All that matters is can the f*&%ing horse see! That's a raid!
Teach it to bite then pee on taters
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.
