I just sold my Ipad 1st Gen. I can't decide between the Ipad with Retina Display or the Ipad Mini. I mostly surf the web, read & watch videos. I do not need a ton of pointless apps and I don't waste my time playing a lot of games.
I would like the advice of the Big Spur community.
I will not be getting some stupid Android device. I am stuck in the Apple Eco-system and I don't plan on leaving.
I'd go with retina display on a full sized iPad. Reason: the only "perk" to the mini is it's size. It's a smaller version of the iPad. But the iPad is already a slim, light device. It's not like you can put the mini in your backpocket. You're either carrying it or putting the device in a briefcase, backpack, purse etc. and that applies to both the mini and the full sized iPad. To me that nullifies that advantage of the mini. Why give up a bigger, more vibrant screen for something is of no real value, size?
Unless $$$ is an issue in which case you can get more memory on a mini for less money. I learned the hard way how fast 16GB of memory gets eaten up. I'll be ditching my iPad for one with more memory at some point.
Well I think I have decided to get 16GB of memory. I have a Macbook Pro that I store all my music, media, etc. on. Any media that I use will basically be "borrowed" from the Macbook.
With the cloud you can store it on that. But...I don't know how much you plan to put on the device itself but...if you do put music and data on there...16G won't last long. I travel a lot. I have a book, a few apps, some, but not a ton of music on mine. As soon as I add video, it's tapped out. I can put a movie on there. Maybe 1/2 of a season of a TV series, but not much more.
Now, if you're always going to be in a wi-fi zone where you can pull from the cloud then 16G is plenty. But if you plan to travel with it, where you won't always have that access...like a long plane ride....it's something to consider.
Yes many planes have wi-fi now, but don't bother trying to download anything. Not happening.
The iPad 2 has been perfect for me. Absolutely love it.
I'm a little older...eye sight getting worse. So, don't think the mini would fit my needs.
I like my mini and use it a lot with the reader apps. I just wanted something smaller than the iPad and bigger than the android tablet that I had.
The Mini is good for those light days....
Not StuckInYankeeland anymore...
Google Nexus 7
LIght days? Sunny days???
Think mini v. maxi.
My kids have the iPad 1 and 2. I have the 3 for work and mini for personal use.
In all honesty, the 2 trumps most all of them.
The three and mini are faster. The one moves like pond water, realatively speaking.
I do notice my 3 gets hot from time to time, but doesn't affect the performance.
Mini is good for light browsing, email and games.
Not iPad vs nexus discussion but will say the 7inch nexus is the perfect size for me, which is about same size as mini. Have not wanted a bigger screen ever and easy to hold for hours. Also fits in bigger pockets like on coats.
I got the Galaxy Note ll and none of my tablets have been turned on in months.
Just throwing that out there as an option.
After using the mini, the full size feels bulky to me. I much prefer the mini for reading, browsing etc
Lol a fool and his money ..
HAHA - Right!
My stupid little Andriod does pretty well compared to the iPads and it's just an oversized phone.
Specs > Hype
You need to delete all of that porn you have stored and memory won't be such an issue for you.
I was forced to switch over to Apple, as my company tech support decided to only support Apple and not offer Android anymore to streamline things. I now have the I phone 5 and new I-pad full size. I was much happier with my Samsung devices. I will say the 4G is unbelievable, but that is just because it is 4G and I'm coming from 3G, not because of the devices.
