Looking to go to one this summer. Any recommendations on the best one and which company to go through?
Depends on how much you want to spend and what part of the world you prefer. I just booked my honeymoon last month but researched for months
It does depend. Are you looking at a couples trip, or a family vacation? Gulf coast, Caribbean (my recommendation lol,) or Baja Mexico?

Excellence in Punta Cana Dominica Repulic!!
If price is no option, look into Jade Mountain in St Lucia. Their website isn't great, but trust me, it is well worth it if you can spend the coin. Went there for our honeymoon 3 years ago and just finished paying it off a few months ago. Probably will never be able to afford to go back once we have kids, at least not until later in life. To get the all inclusive, you would need to sign up for the Romance package. Resort has 2 private beaches and great snorkeling off those beaches. The island offers volcano tours and really cool ziplining adventures. Resort also offers sunset cruises and half day sailing trips. Beach side full service spa...couples massage we got on hut by beach was one of the most relaxing experiences in my life. The resort is constantly vote one of the top (if not the top) resorts in the Caribbean.
The rooms in the resort each have their own infinity pools and each room is uniquely decorated. To top that off, you get a cell phone when you get there that is a private line to your personal butler for the week. Service staff is amazing there. The food is pretty damn good too.
Jade Mountain is definitely the cream of the crop but was outta my price range! Tripadvisor helped me the most. You get real reviews from people that tell you the good bad and ugly.
some general advice:
look at the travel websites for airfare and prices for a few weeks and try to match the best fly dates with the best hotel dates...the airfare and the nightly prices can vary WILDLY...i.e. by adjusting dates you can take a place thats $2,500 total and book it for $1,500.
weigh flight options out of CLT, CAE, CLS, or even driving to ATL. for instance, ATL to Cancun is direct and roundtrip is at about $325/pp
tripadvisor.com is very helpful
bookit.com has a 3-payment plan with no interest, you pay airfare plus $100 up front, and hotel payment over 2 more payments.
consider staying at a smaller, more intimate resort thats cheaper, but upgrade the heck out of your room....this depends on how much you lay around the room or not really. something to consider. we stayed at Privilege Aluxes in Isla Mujeres, MX, a small island off the yucatan, and stayed in a penthouse suite that had a private swimming pool on the roof, sunning area, sitting area, etc, can see ocean to both sides of the island panaramic. smaller resort, not very expensive, but that room was about 1,500 SF kitchen, den, bedroom, and the rooftop pool and crap and it was unbelievable.
you should be able to do 6-7 days/nights at a nice place for $2,000 or so for both of you, including airfare, if you look around.

Royal Hideaway in the Riviera Maya . Top notch and the food isn't your typical all inclusive crap.

Heading there first week in April. Any suggestions on what to do and not to do while I am there?
Yeah, we actually decided to skimp a little on the actual wedding so we could go here. Like I said, I seriously doubt I'll ever spend the coin again to go, but it was definitely worth it one time if you don't mind putting yourself in a little debt. :) Also helped that we didn't have any other debt at the time either.
I got married at a Couples Resort in Jamaica (Couples Negril to be exact.) Absolutely loved it from top to bottom. Great food, great activities, great everything. Jamaica was beautiful and airfare is cheaper there than some other Caribbean islands.
Dang how expensive is it? Ballpark?
There is no way in HELL I would go any where near Mexico at this time.....Cartels running around, people getting chopped up...Might as well go to the Holy Land..At least when a missle hits you it is over quickly....
Anywhere on Grace Bay in Turks And Caicos- Conde Nast's #1 beach in the World!
Or try Sandals Emerald Bay Exuma- formerly The Four Seasons
5 digits at least
I'd feel perfectly safe in the Cancun area or anywhere around the Yucatan, minus normal big city thievery and riff-raff. Mexico is a big country and most of the trouble is in the northwest and centered around the few big drug trade towns like Juarez. Thats like saying I wouldn't go to Myrtle Beach or Charleston because of the gang violence in Detroit or the South Side of Chicago (which probably has a murder rate similar to or in excess of Juarez).

$10k - $20k for 7 nights depending on what time of year you go and how big you want your suite to be. We stayed on the low end of that. But like i said, if we had done the traditional wedding/reception thing, we wouldn't have gone. But we decided to make the whole experience (wedding/honeymoon) about us and spent most of our total budget on the honeymoon.
Spent the honeymoon at Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Beautiful resort built into the cliffs on the ocean. We had a great time and it is not overly expensive. We meet people while we were there who said they had been to our resort and Sandals and that Sandals was way overpriced.
