Fomerly known as Garnet&BlackAttack.
Bought a Nexus 7 yesterday...still trying to figure it out.
If you have an Amazon Prime account, you get some advantages:
* You can stream just about anything from the Amazon Instant Video library for free
* Lots of books are free for Prime users through their 'borrow' program... only bad part is you can only borrow one book at a time I think
Nexus is a Google product... gets great reviews for build quality, portability, overall value (least expensive model is around $200 for 8GB of storage)... basically is your standard Android tablet. Runs Android apps, etc.
Both will play HD movies, both can be used to read books, emails, browse the web, facebook, etc.
If you want to create documents, my understanding is that the Fire is limited as to which apps it can use, while the Nexus can use ANY app created for Android.
So, I think what it comes down to is whether or not you use Amazon as your entertainment hub. If you stream videos and buy books on Kindle/Amazon already, I'd say the Fire is the best bet. The Nexus is not fettered to one particular provider, though.
That's how I'd make the decision, personally.
