I mean Shaw is a great football player and a heck of a kid, but Thompson is the better quarterback for our system. I could see Shaw being moved to WR and becoming the ultimate Wildcat QB, because he is a proven passer. His numbers are great and I know that, and Thompson has a good amount to learn because he puts the ball in trouble (Clemson could've had three picks that game instead of one) but he lets it fly and we have plenty of speed coming back on offense. Just a thought.
Do we think Shaw would respond well to moving to WR ala Ryan Tannehill of TAMU before he came back to QB?
So you want to move a QB who is 17-3 as a starter..... To WR?
5 in a row
LOL @ people listing Shaw's overall record, which is a result of our defense and running game.
Dylan >>> Shaw. Deal with it.
Not sure this is a serious post or not. All I'll say on the matter is that I will be very, very surprised if Connor is not the starting QB against UNC - he 's earned it. But DT has done enough to earn some playing time as well, which I think he will get in 2013.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
17-3 as a starter and the 9th best passer rating right now in NCAA division I-A.
I love Thompson and his abilities, but Clemson did drop a number of poor throws that he made that could have been game changers.
I think the coaches will go into the spring and fall with open minds. I would not be surprised to see Dylan play a great deal, but Conner has proven that he is a winner and a gamer.
JMHO, feel free to disagree.
While I may be inclined to favor Thompson over Shaw I would never suggest that Shaw be moved to WR. I'd like to think that Shaw would have difficulty earning playing time at WR. Not sure that would be the case if Ace and Bruce don't play next year, though.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
I'm not sure Shaw has ever caught a pass in his life. So you are saying a guy who is a proven passer and our starter for the better part of 2 years should be move to QB to give Dylan a shot?
We are gonna rotate QB's and I am ok with that. This is not the same as Tannehill. Not even remotely close.
I to often laugh at people who use records and large sample sizes to make their point. Not saying anything about Shaw as he can be PAINFUL to watch, but I have to ask though, you seem extremely smug for a guy that has little to fall back on. Dylan played 2 SEC defense's this year. He was benched for Strickland against Vandy (in 20 games Shaw has never been benched for Seth Strickland btw). Then you look at UF and he was AWFUL. I think all Gamecock fans would love to see the guy that carved up Clemson's defense (the defense that just a week before held the ACC powerhouse of NC State to just 496 yards passing and 48 points) be our QB, but let's let the kid play a whole game against a good defense before we crown him as the savior of the program at laugh at the people who appreciate a QB that has learned how to win in the SEC.
Spurrier NEVER lets the better qb sit on the bench, what has your film study shown you that Spurrier has missed? Shaw has become the king of the check downs and at times but he's still 17-3 with three losses on the road to teams that were ranked in the top 5. Oh yah, he's also the guy that Dylan can't beat out even with the coach that embraces QB competition more than any coach ever.
Shaw will not be moved anywhere. He will be the starting QB next year. I don't know where some of you people come from. Do you not know he was hurt part of the year. He IS our BEST QB!
Who are Shaw's 3 losses? Ark last year, FL and LSU this year?
Tough to complain about those as they were all on the road. I am not sure that Alabama would have been favored against those teams on the road at that time. Other than that team, no one would have been, except LSU last year maybe.
Yah those are his three losses. We have learned to win with him at the helm even if it's ugly sometimes.
Shaw played receiver while his brother was the QB in high school. He was offered by Wake Forest early as a receiver.
That said, there is not a chance in heck that he changes positions.
Just found a poster to ignore.
Dylan has proven a lot of people wrong, myself included. He's developed into a very good QB. I either hope he's our guy, or get a load more PT next year.
Without question, many point to his record. And that's fine. Stephen Garcia was 13-5(I don't care what you say about Shaw taking the first snap in the ECU game, Garcia QB'd us to a W) dating back to his prior season going in to the Auburn game last year. Yet many thought a change was needed bc they believed Shaw was the better QB.
I think Thompson has developed in to a better QB than Shaw.
