Got a 7 year old son that I am trying to choose a Christmas present for....Xbox w/Kinect or Wii?? He keeps asking for the Xbox but we bought a Wii and are thinking about a switch. Thanks for your help.
I'm far from an expert but my kids have a PS3 which they love, and we got them a Wii for Christmas this year. The best thing for me about the PS3 is that it is also a BluRay player. I know the Wii doesn't have that capability, but I'm not sure about the Xbox.
I LOVE my x box. The kinect is the bomb.

Have kids that are 5 and 8. I try to limit video games as much as possible. For that reason we only have a Wii. I like the fact that many of the gamed involve at least some physical activity.

We have all 3 systems ( 2 360,2 wii, and a ps3) and guess it depends on the genre of games the child likes. Wii is definitely more "kid oriented" with the game library. 360 is played more than any of the 3 at my house. Kinect is great but they play more non-kinect games than anything. I would say the best idea would be go to Walmart or any other retailer and just browse the games and see which ones he is most interested in. Many games are cross-platform but each system has unique games as well. My 11 year old wants a Wii U this year I told him too many systems already not happening he can wait on the next gen 360 or 720 or whatever it is gonna be called.
I always liked games we could play as a family. We never let the girls have TVs in their rooms, either. I wanted to know what they were watching, and I didn't like for us to separate off into different rooms when we could be together. They didn't seem to mind.
We own both. Xbox w/ Kinect and a Wii. Wii rarely gets turned on.
Thanks for the advice.
We have both, and while the Xbox is a much better system, the games available for that age group leaves A LOT to be desired for the Xbox.
The new Wii has better graphics, and is nicer than the older version.
If I was going to buy one or the other for that age group, I would get the wii because of the software that is available for it.
13 yr old & all of his friends end up at our house to play XBox on the big screen because other parents in neighborhood bough Wii because "it was the thing". kids say graphics suck on Wii compared to Xbox & connect allows them to become part of the game...
We have all three systems. Like you we have a 7 year old son. The Xbox gets used way more than the others. Mainly due to game selection and ease of online play. He plays a lot with his cousins online and the Xbox online works very well.
My wife likes the Xbox as well. I bought her the Zumba game, and she digs it.
My four year old hasn't started video games yet, but we have all three systems (I got the 360 free w a laptop purchase). The wii barely ever gets or got used. The 360 with the kinect is cool and I'm thinking of getting my 4 year old a game or two for that. The PS3 has the blu-ray going for it, but IMO it's more of a older kids system. The 360 also has the ability to watch ESPN360 I believe so there's that benefit.
34-17, 4-3, 7-1, 29-7, 34-13 ALL STOP!!! It's a GREAT TIME TO BE A GAMECOCK! Back 2 Back Natty's! DOMINATION By GAMECOCK NATION!
This saved me a ton of money this football season.
I would get him a football, baseball or basketball. He'll have a better chance of not being an anti social fat kid. Not saying he definitely will if you buy him a system, but it will surely increase the chances.
We limit our sons time as well and we got him the Wii. He loves skylanders. Plus there are a number of exercise games he can play.
Get the Wii now. Then when the new Xbox comes out in a year or two, get that. It will probably include the whole Kinect setup.
Best of both worlds.
"You’re either a block-gobbler, a farmer, or you’re a damn hunter and playmaker."
I'll bet you guys play the games as much as your kids do. If you're playing with your kids, that's great!
Xbox kinect .
I like the Wii because I can download all of the old Nintendo games that I liked as a kid. Playing Tecmo Bowl in 2012 is great.
kids are so spoiled these days. when i was 7 i was stoked about a pack of football cards
Xbox! As he gets older he won't want to play dumb nintendo games that are for little kids. The xbox will always be relevant
Xbox definately, but be aware that there is a good chance the next generation Xbox comes out next christmas. These systems usually upgrade every 5-7 years and I've seen sites previewing the new Playstation. As a adult (25) I have a PS3 which allows me to surf the web, netflix, play online, blu-ray player etc
Me thinks it is for you....
