Why's that? You think Mark Richt is responsible for every kid UGA lands? Of course not. But they consistently lands elite classes, ergo Mark is one of the bestest recruiters around.
Mark Richt brings in top 10 classes every year. Put Mark Richt at Mississippi St. and lets see how great of a recruiter he is.
Assistants are doing the legwork, same as they are at every other school. But having Steve Spurrier as our head coach damn sure influences the elite players that we've landed to come here.
I think the suggestion that he should be ranked near the bottom is patently absurd, if not borderline retarded.
Not to mention that Saban / Alabama know how to use the system, ala the Brandon Hill kid committed to Ole Miss who they got to sign a BINDING early enrollment grant-in-aid letter which legally makes every other school stop recruiting the kid. Hill is the top OL in the country per some experts; is early admission kid and was committed to Ole Miss when Saban did a number on him & his mama
Surely you don't mean he's not really the one bringing them in?
Knowing full well you have read this board and interviews a million times of a recruit talking about meeting and talking to SOS and you make that statement? I have never read a MR. Football say I came for my position coach. But it's OK that the head coach is SOS.
He may delegate more than a lot of recruiters and we may not have the best recruiting coaches around. But to go on your opinion and opinion of others to make that comment is just amazing.
Even more of a head scratch-er that the winning doesn't seem to mean anything at all to those star counting soapbox recruiting pundits you agree with.
But carry on, but mark me as in total disagreement with you which seems to happen frequently.
And we whip their butt every year on the field. Which would you rather have?
I will take SOS's combination of recruiting and coaching ability and I will forever be grateful that he chose to come to my alma mater. What he has accomplished in a small state at a school with mediocrity for it's history competing with moo u for talent is remarkable. There will always be the critical glass is half empty crowd but I have lived through far too many lousy seasons and embarrassing losses against the upstate inbreds not to take pleasure in the glass being more than half full. Thank God for Spurrier. Hope the next guy can live up to his standard.
Any "ranking" that doesn't take into account the talent base of the school's home state and football tradition isn't very good imo. You have to be an incompetent bozo to not be able to recruit well at University of Texas or So. Cal. since both schools have rich traditions and loads of five star and high four star recruits within a couple of hour drives of each campus.
So on that premise I'd move Muschamp and Richt down a bit and Franklin up some. USC has done a good job of getting most of the best of the home state talent lately and done decent in border states. If USC can win a SEC title in the near future then it will be interesting to see if we can draw better from those border states.
We lost to LSU and Florida this year. We haven't beat LSU since I can remember. Florida, rarely.Saban's got a powerhouse in Bama that isn't going away anytime soon.
Plus, Bama's in the National Championship for the 3rd out of 4 years. Florida is BACK in the Sugar Bowl. LSU got duped and has to play a miserable game against Clemson in the CFA bowl. Florida and Bama got better bowls than us because they had better seasons which resulted from a combination of better talent AND coaching... plus a little luck.
My point is not that SOS is a bad recruiter. I think he is correctly ranked as far as SEC rankings go, because 8 in the SEC is still top 15 in the country. But to win the big boy trophies, we're going to need to up the talent a little bit more. SOS is a top 3 ranked coach IMO and if you were to mix that with just a smidge more talent, then we'd be national title contenders EVERY year.
What Franklin is doing at Vandy is utterly remarkable and I applaud him for his ability to get the talent there to compete. I hope he stays there for years to come because I'd enjoy seeing another SEC team become a powerhouse, as long as we beat them still.
You can't see! I can't see! All that matters is can the f*&%ing horse see! That's a raid!
Whoa, whoa. You're getting too carried away with crazy statements like that. Obviously we've had a little success against UF lately but still dropped the game against them this season, big. Yes we beat Bama the last time we played them but haven't regularly beat them and I can't remember the last time we beat LSU. How exactly do "we whip their butt every year on the field"? I think your explanation could be interesting.
That may be true but we have beaten #4 & #5 3 times in a row and beaten #2 2 out of the last 3. And #1 the last time we played them.

We beat UF last 2 of 3, we beat Bama last 2 times we play them, we beat UGA last 3 times, we beat UT last 3 times, so I am not getting carried away.
That's about right.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
Nope. Bama won inTuscaloosa in 2009, we won in Columbia in 2010.
then we beat 2 out of last 3. Total domination!!!!! LOL
The discussion was about Bama, LSU and UF as was quoted in the original post you replied to. You're changing the argument to add UGA and UT now to make your point seem reasonable.
You could talk till you are blue in the face and it wouldn't overcome the negatives for VANDERBILT vs anyone in the SEC except Kentucky. I really don't understand the success of James Franklin at Vandy. He can say great degree and after that ...........?. If he is telling those kids that they can win the SEC someday then he is a liar. I can't believe the degree is that big a draw to the majority of D1 talent. What else is going on at Vandy ?
Perfect post, JC!
