I know it is not meaningful in how the game would have turned out but I have to ask the question - Why?
The game was over. Florida was no longer trying to score. They were being respectful of Spurrier and not running up the score. When it happened, I immediately thought that we got what we deserved. For that matter, we shouldn't have been kicking FG's down 30 points late in the game.
Was anybody else embarrassed by this? It diminished Spurrier and was totally unnecessary imo.
I think it was more of getting a game rep on the kick. The lsu kick had too much pace... likely just trying to get a kid more comfortable.
I thought the same thing at the time...after thinking I realized SOS wanted Yates to kick a field goal and try an onside kick to practice in a game situation. Just in case we need these later in the year.
Some people are never going to be pleased or satisfied with any decision. I can remember Spurrier not calling a time out at the end of a losing game and fans ripping him for being a quitter. He just kept coaching until the end.
