needs to get rid of the ball. Gameday showed our WR running free vs LSU. If he can't pull the trigger we have no shot. I've been very critical of our WR's in the past but Shaw could be the bigger issue. He needs to start hitting those intermediate, open routes.
Been saying this and get downvoted, but its the truth, hopefully he will show progress today
Becareful people don't like the truth around here
It's the only reason I don't mind Thompson getting snaps . Atleast he will sling the damn thing
We have some very good WR who are being basically wasted .
I love shaw but he has to take some chances
I can't believe it took Pollack showing that on gameday for people to believe it. I have been saying the receivers have been open all year.
In Shaw's defense, that was a tough environment, and taking hits has not paid off for him. I would like for him to give the routes a tic longer. Him running has turned out pretty good for us, so we don't want to completely take that away.
The difference in the aTm LSU game today is that Johnny Football hangs in there and has completed some balls. You have to pass it against teams like LSU, because running it down their throats is not going to pay off most of the time.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
We play in the SEC. Shaw is going to have to play in tough environments and he's going to get hit. He's gotta perform or we go nowhere.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
watching them highlight the film those our routes he hit v Mizzou. I think it's more of what Spurrier said that last week he didn't keep his eyes downfield, instead he was looking at the rush coming at him...
Another thing before the board starts going all Adam Matthews/Stephon Gilmore/Devin Taylor/DL Moore on Connor is, you have to remember that it is not an either/or thing. Sometimes the receivers are not open. Sometimes the other team just has a good defense on, and sometimes the pressure does get to Shaw. It's a team game.
I think it's more shaw on the road....horrible
It is a team game. When opposing defenses watch film they are going to game plan accordingly. Force Shaw to be a passing QB. Take away the run and short passes !
Shaw is horrible passing...he had ace wide open a few times and never threw it
Sitting in the stands, home AND away, this has been evident for a while! I have figured out 2 things 1) if we win, no one cares 2) tv must NOT show this clearly!! His stats were so good because he wouldn't let go. He's gotten so use to making the plays that he thinks he can do it every time, regardless of how talented the D is. It is simply beyond me why every other qb since spurrier's been here was on the hot seat, WHY is he suddenly married to CS?!?
Yep- any negative mention and you get blasted!
I would like to upvote this 10 times.
He isn't seeing the field plain and simple
To put it bluntly, Shaw is in no way a dropback passer and only is effective throwing when theres a running game to set up play-action or on a broken scramble...Against a quality defense that shuts down our running, Shaw is average at best...
Teams have figured out how to defend the read option and will make Shaw beat them downfield throwing the ball...
It also doesnt help we have no downfield threat taller than 5'9".....Its time Anderson and Adams are put on the field and see what happens...Not to be critical, but D.L. Moore is not the answer..
I agree... Its also obvious teams want Shaw to stay in the pocket and beat them throwing downfield and not on a scramble..Other than a few calls, Fla. is not blitzing a great deal...Keep him in the pocket, and wait for a poor throw....
He's got to get a lot better quickly or we will have a tough time scoring against the better teams the rest of the year...
Fortunately there are no "better teams" left on the schedule. In fact, we are better than florida. Damnit.
Well that's a new one but thanks! Lol. Sadly, I've practically quit posting all together because of the things mentioned in this thread. And I don't mind a good discussion with differing opinions, backed up with actual info that is. But the ever so hilarious, "must be a tater" comebacks with NO intelligent analysis of the situation is simply ridiculous!! I've been a Gamecock all my life, and i support ALL of our boys, but you can do so & be real at the same time. Tanner didnt win 2 national championships by being scared to replace a pitcher who wasnt helping the team. We play in a tough conference against very talented athletes, but it hurts to actually truly be the more talented team for once & just not utilize that talent consistantly. And we should be able to have intelligent conversations with each other without ripping each other apart
Shaw looks as if he is trying out for Dancing with the Stars on every pass play.
I think that Shaw inevitably doesn't trust what he sees. He keeps waiting for guys to get "high school open" and that just doesn't happen in big time college football. You have to realize that receivers aren't going to be running 6 yards past a defender in the SEC. If they have inside position on a slant rant or a post pattern with no deep safety help in the middle of the field then they ARE open. He's just has to let it fly in that situation and he doesn't do it for the most part because he views the receiver as covered since the defender is running with him. Put the ball in the right place and it's a completion, simple as that.

Spurrier has not had a difference makeroreven a good sec QB since he has been here and until he gets one this will be the results against these top sec teams
Me too. Connor does not have D-1 talent throwing the ball. Teams are going to continue playing us the same way until we prove we can throw, and we can against lesser teams, but not against the good ones.
