I spoke with a source close to Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe defensive end and the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect Jadeveon Clowney. He confirmed what I’ve already reported in recent weeks, which is that Carolina is the team to beat for the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder. However, this source also informed me that Alabama isn’t No. 2 on his list, despite what Clowney has been quoted as saying by us and other services. I was told Clowney actually likes Auburn better than Alabama and that UNC was still heavily in the mix until John Blake resigned combined with the NCAA investigation.
I was also told that staying close to home is very important to Clowney and his immediate family. He has a large contingent of family and friends that want to be able to see him play in person as much as possible, and this obviously bodes very well for the Gamecocks with Columbia being about an hour from Rock Hill. Basically, I think Carolina is going to have to give Clowney a good reason to go elsewhere by having a poor season and giving him reason to believe they can’t win big in the SEC. These next two games are going to be very important, as it’s possible he could be in attendance in both cases. At the very least he will watch the Auburn game on TV and be in Williams-Brice for the match up with the Crimson Tide.
The rest of the Rock Hill contingent (Gerald Dixon, Gerald Dixon Jr., and Roderick Byers) plan to take their official visits to Carolina the weekend of the Alabama game, and it’s possible Clowney will decide to do the same. While Clowney maintains he wants to make his announcement at the Under Armour All-American Game in January, there are some in his camp who don’t believe his recruitment will last that long. He’s a pretty shy kid overall, and isn’t particularly enjoying the enormous spotlight that comes with being the consensus top player in the country.

great report, thanks Tony!
Great news. He is a must get considering we lose Big Cliff next season.

Sure would be nice to knock off the #1 team in the country (assuming they beat Arky), and conclude the weekend by getting verbal commitments from the 4 Horsemen.
2012 Season stats: 143 carries, 662 yards, 11 TD's; 26 catches, 173 yards;
Praying for a full recovery, Marcus. God Bless You!
Good stuff. I agree that he is a must get. Keep getting the top players in the state! (and in this case the country)

We need to tell him to commit to Carolina then. Once he commits to us, I'm sure Farrell will drop him to a 5.7 three star because he only wears a size 10.5 shoe.
You may run like Hayes, but you hit like $*!#
Would our staff prefer that Clowney take his official the weekend of the Alabama game to ensure we get one, or would they rather it be an unofficial and hope we get an official visit after the season is over?
In your experience, with a prospect that likely will wait until NSD anyway, how valuable are official visits in the middle of the season when the rest come at the end?
The kid is an absolute freak of nature. I am glad EJ is on the case.
hope we can perform well the next two games and more importantly the balance of the season
This is great news. I wonder why clemson isn't more of a factor here?
Because Clemson sucks and Clowney knows this.
Because they suck . . . at everything.
Clowney has been there once, maybe twice, so Clemson had a chance. I recall someone saying Clemson has an uphill battle when it comes to signing Rock Hill-area players. It would be interesting to hear AllenWilliams' opinion on the matter.
Little hand says it's time to rock and roll.
All of these posts about Clemson sucking are flagrant attempts at gaining upvotes and despicable, imo.
Clemson sucks!!! (and upvotes were given above)

2013 SEC Championship Game: USC v LSU
we just need to worry about ourselves and win games and we will be in the final 3 for alot of very good players
Relieved/happy you made it over Gamecock340!

We should get him on board and recruit to join him and Lattimore. Clem has been doing it for years
Well Clemson does suck... So what if it is a flagrant attempt of getting up votes... I gave each one of them one and would again!! LOL!!
Great news on Clowney!!!!
Would love for him to be in attendance at the Auburn game. Go ahead and cut their ass, put the crowd in the parking lot early, and have the Clowney contingent driving home at 3 AM.
So...what's wrong with saying "clemson sucks" for points...as long as it's true...and it is.
Besides, we saw that a lot anyway on the old site when there weren't any points for saying something everyone wanted to hear...so...let's have everyone say IT in unison... clemson SUCKS!
I don't believe that is accurate info, and I'm an Auburn fan.

Mike, Tony has great sources on this one and he doesn't rumor monger and put stuff out just to be putting it out.
It's cool because you probably have no idea who in the heck Tony Morrell is being an Auburn fan and all.
Awesome news!!! He can step right in as a true freshman and take Cliff MAtthews spot on one side with Devon on the other.
Very encouraging. In-state recruiting looks great at the present time. We really need Clowney and Shell. Both could play a major role next season.
