Thought some of you might be interested...
With official news that football coach Derek Dooley is done at Tennessee let’s take an extremely early look at some names who might be contacted by UT in the coming days.
So who's not on their list other than Dabo since he has withdrawn his name from consideration?
Am I missing something? Why do I see Jimbo Fisher's name associated with the Tennessee and Auburn jobs? I would think Florida State would be a nice gig. You play ACC competition and thus an easy track to a BCS bowl. You have access to Florida kids as well as Georgia and Alabama.
They are on the up and have brought in top classes the past few years. Why would you leave to take over a program that would take another 2-3 years to truly compete?
My money is on Dan Mullen. Turned MSU back into a winner, has SEC East ties from his time at Florida, not to mention recruiting West Tennessee. UT is one of the top 10 jobs in the country, so I don't think it would be far fetched for him to leave Starkville for Knoxville. Gruden would be the sexy hire, but I don't see it happening and even if it does I don't necessarily see it working. Gruden is an NFL guy with an NFL mentality.
Don't think Tennessee is a top 10 job anymore.

Jimbo apparently has pissed off a couple of the big money people and some in the administration at FSU, mostly over their indoor practice facility not being done yet. These guys are kind of blocking anything jimbo wants done, or at least making it difficult. The rumor is he goes to Auburn, but only brings Dameyen (sp) Craig with him (QB coach and best recruiter)
Just my opinion, but I think Fisher sees the writing on the wall in regards to the lack of respect received by the ACC nationally, and he's realized the conference will be irrelevant in national championships moving forward. He has been very vocal in his complaints about FSU's BCS ranking and the fact that they are a 1-loss squad on the outside looking in. Personally, I think he realizes that if he wants to win a NC at FSU that they would absolutely HAVE to go undefeated, whereas a 1 loss Auburn or UT would be right in the thick of things just as Bama, UGA, and UF are right now.
Moving from FSU to Auburn or UT would by most accounts be a lateral move, however the difference is the national perception of the ACC vs that of the SEC...
I'd contribute to the hire Jimbo fund in Knoxville.
Thanks, that makes a little more sense now.
It will not surprise me one iota if Fedora ends up either at UT or AR.
don't you read this board? Chad Morris will be hired Wednesday.
True, but its much easier to go undefeated in the ACC than to go through the gauntlet in the SEC with only 1 loss. At auburn he'd have to beat bama, LSU, UGA and A&M every year. He only has to beat Clemron and UF at FSU.
So basically their list is anyone with a pulse right now. Wow that narrows it down, to be expected right now.
