For recruiting Frank Martin! My boss always says the goal is to leave the place better than we found it. Hyman certainly did that. Screw the haters. I just wish Hyman had been in charge when the CLA was being designed/built. It could have been a spectacular building.

Hyman works for aTm now. You can also thank him for the state the basketball program is in, and the massive rebuild Martin is having to undertake, while your'e in the thanking mood.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
I wouldn't say the net change in the basketball program from the time he came to the time he left was a positive. True, he did make a good decision to make up for his poor decision earlier. We are rebuilding the junk his guy left us. Thankfully he made a better hire the second time around.
In other areas, Hyman did leave us in better shape -- just not in this one.
Like I said haters gonna hate.
We were not good at bball when hyman got here either. Take the blindfold off, hyman was a GREAT ad here. I think tanner will do great as well but we will have to wait and see.
I don't hate him. He did a lot of good things while he was here. He's good balancing budgets, and he built up our facilities. I don't think it can be understated how fortunate he was to walk in on The HBC being the football coach, and Tanner being the baseball coach. A lot of AD's could have screwed that up, and he didn't. I am also grateful for him hiring Dawn Staley, and Coach Frank.
I guess my beef with him is that my mom worked in the athletic office while he was there, and the level of disrespect he and Marci showed the 'help', such as the administrative assistants( secretaries), and people like that was pretty sickening. He is not a popular guy amongst the employees around there. A person in his position should not have that problem.
Thank You for bring up the truth. The guy obliterated the program with one of the worst hires in school history.
Oh, and Eddie Fogler is the reason Frank Martin is here.
hodad gonna ho imo
Lack of social skills or not, EH was the best athletic director in this university's history. No one else is anywhere close.
I'm not disputing either way, but how is that? He built up facilities, and made some tough decisions, but he did walk in on The HBC as football coach, and Ray Tanner as baseball coach. The donations coming in because of Spurrier and Tanner were going to be more than we had ever seen, no matter who the AD was. I think Hyman did a good job, and I'm not saying he wasn't the best ever, but what did he do that makes him the best ever?

Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
First of all, I said the best "in this university's history." So I'm not comparing him to someone at Michigan or Southern Cal or wherever, but to his predecessors at the University of South Carolina.
His closest competition is probably Paul Dietzel, who hired Bobby Richardson to create a topnotch baseball program, and who oversaw the transformation of the old Carolina Stadium into Williams-Brice. (He's also responsible for the current Gamecock logo and the fight song.)
But Dietzel also led us out of the ACC, which was a disastrous decision at the time. And his football program was mediocre at best.
Mike McGee is responsible for bringing Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier to USC. But if he gets credit for those hires, he also gets the blame for hiring Brad Scott. And McGee let facilities and athletic fundraising stagnate.
As for the other ADs -- Jim Carlen, Bob Marcum, Dick Bestwick, and King Dixon -- tell me something any of them did (aside from Carlen's coaching duties) that had any lasting impact.
MM hired Coach Tanner and Coach Frye was well. Those were two other important and successful hires.

i thought the message based on this title would be
I think Tanner will end up surpassing all of them.
For the record, tanner would've left USC if it wasn't for hyman getting him his stadium and that's a fact. It is the reason he left nc state to come here and made it clear that this is what he needed to compete. We were stagnate in fundraising before hyman got here and now we are Competative facility wise in all men's and women's sports.
Hyman took a flyer when he hired Horn and he did turn out to be a bad hire. Had he worked out, it would now be seen as brilliant. Hyman didn't have the money to go after a proven big time coach at that time. His management as AD did put him in position to do so when he let Horn go. I am optimistic that Martin will turn out to be a home run hire.

Isn't Fogler the reason Horn was hired as well? Did we now use his "consulting" at the time?
