for not only being a great pitcher but a great student and ambassador for our University.. you rule dude
Love players who are great students, great athletes, and have a lot of fun doing both. That's the way it should be!
Has and will be a Gamecock legend. Looking forward to his next start
Michael Roth is the epitome of what a student athlete should be. He will be very successful in life whether he makes it in the big leagues or not. Thank you for the memories Michael. And thank you for being a tigger killer.
Who knew that day he started that game against clemmons that he would the star that he has been the last two years. Way to go Michael, you have made every Gamecock proud!
Yes. Thank you Micheal. Let's keep this thread up top!

Michael Roth is the greatest athlete to ever wear a Gamecock uniform. It is not debatable.
He's certainly been a special player the last three years but I wouldn't go so far as to call him the greatest athlete ever to wear a Gamecock uniform.
Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty
Really really hard to argue with that
Mike was in one of my management classes and I'll always remember him messing around on his iPad because the class was easy for him, whereas for me I had to retake it!
Now I'm sure I didn't try as hard has I could have but he is an extremely smart kid and an even better representative of our University.
Kip Bouknight, Earl Bass, John Roche, Alex English, George Rogers, Eric Norwood, Terrence Trammel. There are quite a few former Gamecocks who could be considered the greatest athlete ever to wear a Gamecock uniform.
He's easily one of my favorite Gamecocks of all-time.
How many of them have an SEC Championship? An East Championship? 2 National Titles? Player of the Year? All American? All-SEC? Scholar Athlete of the Year? Undefeated vs Clemson?
All of those guys are great Gamecocks. None compare to Roth.
Roth is not undefeated vs Clemson by the way. He took the lost in relief his sophomore year at Clemson as I recall. He's undefeated as a starter.
Do you really put Eric Norwood in that sentence with those guys?
If you want to believe that Roth is the greatest Gamecock ever you're certainly entitled to feel that way. I don't agree. The issue is at the very least debatable.
As for the baseball team's accomplishments, I don't consider those when attempting to identify the greatest individual athlete in Gamecock history.
3-time all-SEC, All-American as a senior? I sure do.
How about this, as Gene Sapakoff tweeted?
"Can you name a more productive, winning #Gamecocks athlete? Ever?I say no, and not really even close."
I've had the pleasure of seeing John Roche and Bobby Cremins play basketball in Gamecock uniforms, virtually every game of George Rogers' career at USC, Hank Small set the NCAA home run record, Randy Martz and Kip Bouknight win national player of the year awards, and Melvin Ingram and Marcus Lattimore make us a football powerhouse,
Is Michael Roth the greatest Gamecock ever? Too many way to define "greatest" to say for sure. But I believe he edges out John Roche for the most IMPACTFUL player ever to don a Gamecock uniform.
What an honor to be a fellow alum with him. Thanks, Michael.
Other than those who were members of our baseball team the last two years, I can think of no Gamecock who's been on two national championship teams other than those who were members of both of our national championship equestrian teams. I don't think you can consider team accomplishments, though, when you're attempting to identify the greatest Gamecock athlete of all time.
This statement slams the door!!!
It certainly proves that Roth has been a member of successful teams. That says nothing, though, about Roth's individual status among the greatest Gamecock athletes. Otherwise, we'd have to name Evan Marzilli and Adam Matthews as all-time great outfielders and Colby Holmes as an all-time great pitcher.
