I didn't think much of it when they had a bad start, but now at 0-8 I think USM is the only D1 team with no wins.
Does USM ride it out and give him another chance?
If they fire him does he end up back in the SEC as a DC or just retire?
My guess is he doesn't coach there next season based on some of the things Southern Miss fans are saying. They are calling for his head at this point. I do think he will be a DC somewhere. Hopefully not an opponent of ours.
I hope they just rented in Hattiesburg.
Petrino can hire him if he gets a HC gig.
Ellis needed to listen to the old saying "Be careful of what you ask for"......
"You’re either a block-gobbler, a farmer, or you’re a damn hunter and playmaker."
He has always been a terrible head coach. It was a bad hire....said so when he was being interviewed.
I have a lot of respect for Ellis and his family. Great people. He is an awesome defensive mind. But a head coach he is not.
Fireellisjohnson.com is already up
Worst case scenario, he ends up coaching in the upsate as their DC.
You are exactly right Taylors. Brad Scott was a decent asst coach and recruiter but a terrible HC. It does not always translate from Asst to HC.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
I'd be amused if was Georgia tech. Can you imagine how much griping he'd do about seeing triple option in practice every day?
It won't be Clemson. Venables is not going anywhere.
hes finished down that way.................Favre gonna be the next coach....
that would be horrible and bad for us
When I was younger, I had a bumper sticker that said, "If I owned Hell & Clemson, I would rent out Clemson and live in Hell"
''fair is not getting them same as everybody else, fair is getting what you need to succeed."
Ellis is a heck of a DC, but I would fear his recruiting connections in the state more than his coaching prowess if he ended up at a rival school.
The rug really tied the room together, did it not?
That would be a nightmare team for any opponent. I don't care what type of talent is on a team, that combination of coaches has to be a 3-4 game swing.
Clemson as the LB Coach
UK as the DC to Cutcliffe
UT as the DC to Cutcliffe or Petrino
If I were Spurrier I would hire him back as a position coach in a matter of nano-seconds if he was open to it.
I could definitely see any of these scenarios along with the GaTech comment. I would think he and Paul Johnson would get long well with similar shorten the game mentalities. I would also love Ellis coaching and recruiting against Clemson. He won't land in Clemson, as Venebles makes way too much money. Maybe The Chad hires him away as his DC! I would personally love for Morris to get a head ACC job!
I guess the big question is: IF Ellis is about to hit the open market should we be proactive and get that head coach in waiting tag on him now before he gets scooped up?
Two grand boys, Two state championships. 5-peat USC
