Same offense and personnel...Thompson looks like he can make throws shaw can't. Shaw can run better obviously but the play calling looks more open with Thompson...the blocking looks better with Thompson in there too honestly.
Connor Shaw does all the right things and deserves to be the starter but Thompson has the hot hand and I think its foolish not to ride that out...
No question the offense is more productive with Thompson in there. No knock on Shaw but there is no way he should have been playing tonight. Why not sit out and come back 100% against Mizzou? Now he is hurt AGAIN and who knows when he will be back.
I'll take a healthy Shaw all day and every day. I don't feel Shaw is healthy but when he was he made all these throws. Its like people completely forget the throws he made to Jeffery and Ellington versus Clemson and the throw tonight where he got re-injured was perfect and led to a TD. I'll take the guy that led SC to 11 wins last year and a tough road win at Vandy earlier this year!
i think we had to get shaw snaps. dont want him going into mizzou with so few game reps. as for the comparison thompson is throwing it better but shaws arm is hurt. plus, at some point in the near future we will need shaw's legs in the game. our offense will need the dual threat so if shaw is healthy he is the starter.
Is it just me or does the play calling seem completely different when Shaw is in compared to Dylan? I could be wrong but feel like the tempo and playing is completely different when the two guys are in at different time
I think Shaw is a great QB, but there is definitely a different look to our offense when Thompson is in. I don't care who starts, but I have enjoyed watching Thompson more than Shaw thus far. I will take this opportunity to say that M. Davis also looks very good. All that matters is 3-0.
Shaw needs to realize that the WR doesn't have to be running free to take a shot. Thompson puts the ball at risk more often but he gives our guys a chance to make a play. Shaw needs to learn to trust his receivers. Same thing happened last year when Alshon didn't get enough targets.
Shaw is not healthy sovvisnt a fair comparison. Istill dont think he is 100 percent from his shoulder injury in june. Look at his throws against vandy brfore he fot hurt in the game. His velocity was less than last year in my opinion.
George Strait-Entertainer of a Lifetime
He was injured this summer with a strained labrum. Did not throw in the month of june because of it.

i think Thompson is going to have to be our guy regardless now. I don't know much about shoulders and breaks and all that, but i can't imagine that a cracked shoulder blade that is going to heal during the duration of the season. I wonder if they should shut him down for the season and get a medical redshirt or regular redshirt, or just see how much we can get out of him this year. Either way, this isn't going to be a good season for the poor guy. Sucks!
My favorite thing about watching Thompson play is that we look like we have a clue on offense. The rythem is much better. The chains move, and quickly. Non of that go to the line, read the defense, get a signal change, call a timeout bc you can't get a snap off. Dylan certainly takes more risk, but he has a stronger arm. Shaw will hold it until the receiver is wiiiiide open to throw it, and the window to catch it has closed by the time the ball arrives.
I wish shaw a speedy recovery, and love watching him play, but I wanna see if Dylan can play well against SEC defenses. If he can, the fun and gun is back.
Only thing keeping me from jumping on the Thompson bandwagon with both feet is that he's done it against the two worst defenses we will see this year - against the one defense with a pulse he wasn't productive. Connor has proved himself against good competition during his career. But Dylan does throw some really nice balls on occasion!
With 2:00 left in the half Shaw was 7-9 with around a hundred yards passing. DL Moore promptly lets two perfect passes bounce off his chest. Shaw makes a good throw to Bruce on the play he got hurt.
Was it pretty? No, but pretty effective considering he was about 70%. He never should have been playing. I like Dylan a lot, and I just want to win. But how many picks would Dylan have thrown tonight if he wasn't bailed out by penalties and drops?
Shaw at 100% is the more complete QB. Shaw at 70%, however, is a different story.
A healthy Shaw is the better QB and from offensive play one it was clear he was not. Thompson throws much quicker while Shaw runs/scambles better. Thompson got the job done and we recorded the 7th straight win. Our true test will be next week.
Shaw makes us a one dimentional team and much easier to defend. Once DT is at QB, ML yards will pick up as well.
DT just sees the field really well. Threw into double coverage a couple of times but usually goes to the right guy even if it is a bad throw.shaw looked great at the end of last year but has thrown it short all year this year even before the injury. Love shows competitiveness. But Dylan is simple outplaying him right now.
Thompson until Shaw is 100%
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.
I think Shaw is the better dual threat QB but Thompson seems to see the field better on the deep passes. If the Oline can ever get to the point where they can dominate the line for the run plays, then I think both QBs can be effective. Why not play both where Shaw wears out the defense with his legs and the short and over the middle passing game, while Thompson gasses them with the deep ball.
