For him winning the Heisman... Seems kinda stupid not to commemorate the biggest accomplishment in our program's history.
And yes I know about the street name and the little billboard in the stadium, but we need something with more prestige that we can show off to recruits, fans, etc.
Do you know why he didn't have a HOF pro career? We might not want people that have little skidmarks like that in their past to be shown off. Not that I agree, but that could be the reason.
You can't see! I can't see! All that matters is can the f*&%ing horse see! That's a raid!
I doubt that is the case but rather USC hasn't done squat to enhance the stadium outside area until recently. Plus, what statues of athletes are there at USC? Roache; Dunleavy; Rebok...?
Do not follow.
George had a good pro career and very few Heisman winners end up in the pro HOF, so I am not sure of the relevance here.
Valid point OP, there should be something more he did win the greatest CFB individual honor....ole George sure loved to party though
Making bets and cashing checks
Past drug issues that were very public is what I think he is referring to.
Why have a statue when you've got the real thing out there grinning ear to ear every weekend.
The statue would require you make a donation if you took a picture of it... j/k
The trophy is displayed and his names and accomplishments are displayed. Not sure more is needed.
He has been a representative of the University since the day he graduated, and moreso since the day he retired from pro football. George has admitted his issues as a young adult, and has always been a great ambassador for the university. He loves USC, and USC has loved him and respected him. I don't know why there is no statue, except there are no other statues anywhere else either. I think the obvious thing to do would be to place one of George and maybe Steve Wadiak at the W-B, one of Coach Ray at Carolina Stadium, and one of Coach McGuire at Colonial Life Arena. SOS and Coach Staley may be working on theirs as well.
Well put. Check out Auburn's Jordan Hare Stadium... their three Heisman winners all have statues outside the main gate.
That's what I was referring to, yes.
I agree with you 100%. I'm not saying he shouldn't have a statue or something of that nature. I'm saying that MAY be the reason why he doesn't. It wasn't my decision to put one or not put one up.
And I upvoted the OP, and I normally bash the OP and downvote him just for being who he is.

I agree that there should be some sort of recognition for George outside WB...but a memorialis for after you are dead. The fact that USC stood by George after ALL his problems, says more about how the Athletic Department feels about him than a statue.
You are scaring me, and I don't know what to do right now. Is this a Reverse troll, where you make me give you an upvote even though I don't want to? I am confused.
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
Why are statues for after you're dead? I'd want the person I was honoring to enjoy the honor. Spurrier has one at UF, be willing to bet he thinks we should have one of George up. Put George and clowneys up at the same time ...
Here's Bo Jackson admiring his statue at Auburn's stadium. That beautiful brick facade is a story for another day.
I have long since thought that we should commission a Carolina grad artist to do a life size bronze statue of Big George when we do the remake of the apron around the stadium.
I think when we go on to win and SEC title and maybe even a Natty title Big George and Spurrier will go up.
Sad to say but the best statue of them all would have been Lattimore , hoping his Pro Career can bring him everything he ever wanted because he sure did leave everything he had out on the field in a Gamecock Uniform
as of this past season.

They named the street after him, I think you will see a statue once the stadium beautification takes place.
One of the greatest Gamecocks ever!
Wish they had relocated the mural that was torn down .
They just waiting for clowney to win his this year so they can put em up at the same time
I did not say statues...I said memorials are for after you die...read...
If not right outside the stadium it could be put across the street at the entrance to the garnet way or whatever we call it. That would be impressive.
Why would there be a memorial? He's not dead. I'm sure there will be a statue eventually. Him, spurrier and lattimore would be a good start.
I also don't have time to teach you how to speak hobo.
