I hate to state the obvious but no kidding. But he was a starter and was a contributor. You said Carera would be a bench player on a better team and I'm only saying if we have some scoring options around him, he could be a starter and quite useful. Which is basically the career of William Gallman and is an insult to neither.
That is what I originally said, though. We aren't really arguing too much except I don't think he is ever an ideal starter at four.
Those two NCAA teams had a fatal flaw. But they seem like the 90s Chicago Bulls compared to what we've seen since.

What did I say about Ellington that wasn't true? On Geathers, yeah it's a long shot, but he is a Geathers, so maybe he'll come around. Do you se any other options?
As far as the rest of this season, I'd like to see us win a few close games, not so much for any reason pertaining to this year, but just to give these guys a taste for winning.
Unlike last year where winning a few games here and there seemed more a matter of keeping the life support machine hooked up a while longer, this is hopefully a program now building towards a better future.
I don't understand why people find the need to compare every player to another. Different era, different teammates, different opponents.
Facts are in basketball you hope to have 3 legit scorers and the rest be role players that will get you between 6-10 points apiece every night. Most role players develop over time and give hope to fans that said role player will be a legit threat once they are the man.
Antonio Grant was a great example of this. I loved the way he played the game when he was with BJ and Melvin. He always hit the big shot and made the defensive play or got the offensive rebound. What happened when those guys left? My love for AG didn't change but he was not able to be the guy, neither was Herbert lee davis, William Gallman, or bud Johnson. They fulfilled their roles but that was all they could do and they did great things for us and I will be forever grateful for that 3 year run as it was fun.
I fully expect Carrera and Kacinas to develop but they are role players and if we have to depend on them for more than what they are we will be a poor basketball team. We need to get better players. That doesn't downplay the effort those guys play with, ell me and 7 other guys on this board will play our asses off for the cocks but we would get drilled every time.
Why we lost to Auburn: no talent.
"You’re either a block-gobbler, a farmer, or you’re a damn hunter and playmaker."
Horn is a disgrace to the game of basketball. He has set us back years. Worst hire ever in any sport. Frank will have us winning next year though. He is the man!!
Not to be disagreeable as I am no Darrin Horn apologist, but you obviously weren't around for the Steve Newton years, or how about Richard Bell, sparky anyone? We have definitely hired some poor excuses for some coaches. Horn ranks with the worst but at least he got us into the postseason once!
Well said. +1. There has been a huge difference under Coach Martin. He is going to be an outstanding coach for Carolina and will do an excellent job. Beginning in about two years we will be a consistent NCAA team and we will make it to the Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight. He has a lot of building to do....not rebuilding but building.
One of the reasons we lost yesterday was, just like the Miss St game, they made more FT than we attempted. Both games they scored 7-10 more points at the foul line. That means we aren't taking the ball to the basket which is what Frank wanted us to do more than years past.
Auburn scored more points than we did at the end of regulation.
Ding. We have a winner
Exactly. It will be tough for this USC team to win if that happens.
Just curious, were you saying this when we hired him?? Ill support whomever our coach is, but I was always skeptical, wku hit a running three to get by there first round oppt in the tourney then got to the sweet sixteen, I've often asked would we still have hired him if wku has gone out in the first round?? To your point though, it was a terrible hire
we are undersized as every position. in basketball size matters. We generally go with 3 guards because we have so little depth inside,. We have 4 players we can count on to contribute. Jackson, Kacinas, Carrera & Slawson. Slawson is our of position at C because he's the best we have for that slot. Jackson at PF has the muscle but he's only 6-5. Kacinas & Carrera are freshmen and regular in foul trouble. Martin is working with severe limitations roster wise. We have numbers but not a lot of kids that are SEC ready.
Eric Smith is a nice player but he cannot defend quicker SEC pg's. Williams would be an amazing wing if he were 6-5. Trouble is he's 5-11. Page would have relly helped but of course he's gone now. Geathers is out (maybe the whole year because he broke his kneecap in late summer). Chat is 7-0 but really needs a couple of years to give us more than spot duty.
This ios not to make excuses. This is to point out what I see. Richardson and Leonard have both stepped it up. B-Rich plys wing at 6-4 175 0r 180 lbs. He's twice the player he was under Horn. Same for Leonard though he's a little heavier. The bets is yet to come.
FM2 has a tough hand to play this yr. Adding Johnson, Ringer, Thornwell and McKie for next year is going to be a huge help. If we can add Henry we'll still be extremely young but the talent level will have been increased by a factor of 2 in some very critical positions.
