Is anybody watching it? Does anyone care?
You can't see! I can't see! All that matters is can the f*&%ing horse see! That's a raid!
Not trying to be rude or anything. Seriously
I've been watching. Kimbrell blew it last night. Wish the American guys cared as much as the Dominican and Japanese guys.
It's been good baseball, except the roster for the U.S. is clearly the second tier of talent. Some great players like Wright, Adam Jones, and Stanton, but so may great players aren't playing. The Dominicans are LOADED. Kimbrel didn't pitch poorly. He wasn't walking guys and falling behind in the count, but sometimes all-star hitters turn around 98 MPH fastballs.
I was offended at the massively pro-Latin crown in Miami though. No excuse for that. Don't get me wrong, I get what Miami is, but it was way beyond 50/50. Seemed to be 90% Dominican.
The problem is there's just not a good time to do it and there hasn't been a pro/international competition around long enough for American guys to care. The non-American teams want to win because its our game.
After the season it's way too cold and before the season guys don't want to risk injury when this is their time to get in shape. Theoretically it'd be cool to do it mid year instead of an all-star game every 3 years, but as soon as a team lost a star player they'd start prohibiting participation in contracts.
yes and yes
Yes .... its great baseball and last nights game although the US lost was a very exciting game and atmosphere was like game 7 of the world series. It is unfortunate that we cannot truly assemble a "dream team" with Verlander, Price, Trout etc...I have a slight problem with the US superstars sitting out when it seems that every single Latin superstar is not just playing but giving their all to help their country win. I understand why Verlander isnt playing with the large number of innings he already throws being extended deep in the playoffs but guys like Harper and Trout have no excuse. If you are a true baseball fan though it is a great thing to watch.
Yes & yes for me as well. I was really into last nights game!!! I agree the best us players aren't playing but it's a good roster and they can win it!!!
The MLB owners would never agree to a break in the season, despite the fact that soccer clubs worldwide do it for World Cup and hockey leagues everywhere do it for the Olympics. It's a shame because it could be so awesome.
I don't understand whether it's players or owners who are preventing the roster of the US side from being as great as it could be.
Guys not on the roster who would improve it: Heyward, Upton, Kemp, McCutcheon, Fielder, Longoria, Trout, hamilton, Hill, Tulo, Howard, Posey, Freese, Harper, Zimmerman, Desmond, etc. and that's just the position players.
Only thing I will say is they - the Dominicans - should count their blessings I am not Kimbrell. With all the hot dogging they were doing someone would have taken one in the earl hole. I think it has been fun to watch and I agree with the statement above. Without knowing who would have known that game was being played in the US with all the non-American support in the crowd.
I like the energy and excitement. As long as nobody is taunting the other team, I don't see what's wrong with having fun. As a lifelong baseball player and coach, I draw a firm line in the sand at showing up the other team. Celebrating is different.
