Contemporary does not mean better. Sometime it is just shallow.
While entourage was a highly entertaining show and I have watched every episode multiple times... It just doesn't have the depth that The Wire had.
Second to Enotourage, Big Bang Theory and then all closely followed by Suits and SNL...
Old person tv, Saved By the Bell was good as was Friends and Martin...
Never was able to get into Seinfeld, The Wire, MASH, Happy Days, and certainly not Andy Griffith...
I'm sorry, I have to respectfully disagree. Lost had its moments during the first three seasons and was on its way to being great. Then they decided to just drop plot elements and add more twists. In my opinion the ending was horrific and never answered anything. There is actually a really funny youtube video that shows all the questions and plot elements never answered. The Wire is amazing from beginning to end. All five seasons give resolution and can stand up on their own. It is not even a competition. To each their own, but Lost is one of those shows that just ended up making me mad when it was all over. Also, I am too young for Andy Griffith, so I've got nothing for that haha
EDIT: here is the link to that video thought it was pretty funny

I tried to get my gf started on The Wire. i was goin to rewatch it anyway so I told her how good it was. After the first episode she turns to me and says "meh it was alright. It can't compare to dexter or breaking bad though. Not even close." I about fell out of my chair. You can't evaluate The Wire until you are at least a full season in. The show has to develop.
If any of y'all have tried but couldn't get into it... Try again. Keep watching. Once you catch on you'll never let go.
To poor for HBO.

1. The Wire 2. The Soprano's 3. Breaking Bad. Lost doesn't even deserve to be in this thread.

I would agree that the first 3 were the best. There was only supposed to be 4 seasons and they had to figure out a way to extend it so they added in some elements.
I've watched that youtube video before and actually answered several of the questions that he asked that he says were never answered.
IMO Lost is the best series.
Boy you got me confused wit a man who repeat himself.
i already have the first 5 years on discs. 160 episodes. watch them all the time.
you dont know nothing.
boy when i get home remind me to slapyour moma
Little hand says it's time to rock and roll.
Agree...and I like Lost. Doesnt make the list though. The Shield is on my list as well...and is a good example of the right way to end a series.
The wire is the best tv series ever made, and it's really not even close. Band of brothers was awesome, boardwalk empire/homeland/dexter/sons of anarchy are all good. Entourage was definitely entertaining but it's not a very deep show.
Lost wouldn't make top ten.
boy you are dumber than a barell of monkey nuts
Ahhh, touche...forgot Dexter...
except for "the shield" off and on some years back, i dont watch tv--i started watching "breaking bad" on netflix after football season and was up wayyyy too late evry night watching and have rewatched some episodes....that is a bad a$$ show. im suprised it doesnt get more love ITT. is lost, dexter, wire even remotely as entertaining as BB?
BB probably has more "instant gratification" than the wire. Dexter probably has more intense scenes per episode but the characters aren't as good and the writing certainly isn't up to par with the wire. Still a good show though hust seems mire like a typical network show except it has profanity and nudity. reminds me more of an fx show than hbo or showtime. The first 3 seasons of lost were fantastic but it dropped off hard starting with the 4th season.
1a the sopranos
1b the wire
3 breaking bad
4 boardwalk empire
Dexter isn't near the show of BB. I enjoy dexter but its doesn't come close to the depth of a BB or The Wire which are two of the best written and acted shows ever IMO. The attention to detail in the wire is great. Both shows have very strong character development and you become attached to them both good and bad. I never liked Lost though I tried. Dexter is kind of the same thing every week with plot twists you can see coming. Season 3 of Dexter with John Lithgow as the bad guy is one of the best seasons of tv ever though, very dark and marvelously acted on Lithgows part.
Game of thrones has been bad ass so far as well and deserves som love itt. Definitely my favorite new show on TV.
