our HBC...

  • I am tired of reading all the sh__ about our HBC. He has taking our team that we all love to a different level. Has he handled this season correctly proably not, but who am I or any of you to second guess what's going on with our team. We are defending SEC east champs and still in position to repeat. When in the past have we had heisman canidate on our team the number 1 recruit in the nation and a potential top 10 recruting class already in oct?? SEC east is still there for us. I am as upset as anyone else for the way we have played so far this season, but firing the coach that has gotten us where we are is insane. Hell we were talking potential National Champs in preseason SOS has done a fantasic job in his time here let's give him a chance to make it right. I still beleave in the man that has taken this team to beat Florida in the swamp for the first time, beating GA back to back in a long time, beating the #1 team in the country, winning the first title since 1969 ACC (SEc East), landing the #1 recruit in america oh almost forgot having the chance this year to beat Clemsux 3 times in a row. Come on guys let's rally around this team when they need us the most I still beleave!!!!! GO COCKS!!!!

  • Well, don't read it then. The fact of the matter is that it may be time for him to hang it up and there are a multitude of reasons why. It is obvious to anyone who knows the game that we are very poorly coach in many areas of the game. For example, yesterday when we were forced to run a two minute offense, I knew it was over. We are not organized enough on that side of the ball to run a two minute and it definetly showed. He's the "quarterback guru", right? The best qb we've had in his time wasn't even recruited by him (Blake Mitchell). Think back to the onside kick in the Navy game and Butler's comment about it after the game. How could your head coach not know that we had no "special" onside kick? HOW DOES YOUR HEAD COACH NOT KNOW THAT? Playcalling is atrocoius. Yes, by the end of the game we often end up about 50/50 run/pass, but there is no mixture with in an individual series. It seems as if it's run, run, run or pass, pass, pass; it's pretty pathetic. I could go on and on as to why it is really looking like a change is needed but I can't. Talking about our deficiencies just irritates me now. I never thought that our play from the qb position would be what is holding us back, but that's where we are at. You do realize that the qb position is his responsibility and that spot is turning a team that has the talent and ability to beat anyone in the country, yet because we are so terrible at that position there is a good chance that this team only wins a couple more games this year. That is unacceptable! What's going on right now is a joke, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Oh yea, he is a lazy recruiter and his evaluations at the qb postion suck. Nosovitch over the Lambert kid, really? Please try and explain to me why it is so important for us to have a "mobile" qb. Unless something changes the second half of the season, the time has come for change and the change MUST be made while we still have a lot of talent. Coaches know when other teams have talent. We would be an attractive destinaion right now but with the path that it looks like we're on, if a change is not made we could easily be back where we were before we hired him. I guess some of you just accept mediocrity, I can't. If Hyman want to make a mark on this program, he should really think about giving his old pal a call (Gary Patterson). That's one guy that I don't think would let all this talent go to waste.

    No arguments here.

  • Sure Spurrier has messed up and messed up last night. But to suggest that he hasn't done a tremendous job with our program is ridiculous.

Dude, you need to relax. Spurrier has made this program into what it is.

You sir have a warped sense of the current situation. Mediocrity is what we have had for generations and your own comment about this "being an attractive destination and if a change is not made we could easily be back where we were before we hired him" makes no sense. How do you think this became an attractive destination and how do you think "this talent" came to be here. Respectfully your logic seems terribly flawed.

  • OK, so we don't think about making a change because he raised the profile of our program? You know, it baffles me that some of you can't see how poorly coached in many areas that we are and, like I said, the one area that is killing us is his responsibility but that really isn't what ticks me off the most. The utter mismanagent of certain game situations is just laughable and it doesn't happen at most other places. So, if some of you want to remain the 3rd or 4th best team in the east, go ahead but I see the ability that this program has and it is much better than that. Some of you really need to open your eyes because, even as bad as it is, there are more issues than just the play of our qb.

  • This would currently be an attractive destination because we have a LOT of talent in our program right now. And believe me, my sense of the current situation is definetly not "warped", it's realisitic. Sure, a lot of our guys loved the opportunity to play for Coach Spurrier, but look at some of it that's now being wasted to a degree. Point is, there is no excuse for this team, offense in particular, to be performing as it is. If you think this team has a chance to get to where we thought it was before the season started, you're kidding yourself. Yesterday was not "just one game". The offense is getting worse by the week, game management issues, which honestly have been a big issue his entire tenure, kill us, and there are no signs of either improving. You know, if these problems were occuring at say Bama or LSU, you don't think people would be calling for Saban's or Miles' head?

you say we are "better than that" as far as being 3rd in our division.

really? based on what? tradition? recruiting grounds? finances?

last time i looked florida & georgia & tennessee all have better football traditons. fla & ga have tons more players in high school many of them not as stupid as are too many s.c. students. u.t. recruits nationally due to their tradition.

those three schools are not sitting around waiting for s.c. to bully them. they are able and as willing as are we to bust our cans

eddie folger got canned for telling the truth. we are not going to be a perennial power in hoops....and not in football either. having a sensational season occasionally is certainly possible. but we need to drop our delusions about our place in the world.

again, how we can just assert we are better than fla-ga-tn on the basis of wishful thinking, i just dont get. we have more and better players than ever. we have not found a quarterback who can handle the boss' offense or the dangers of a super competitive league. i wish we had one. but it aint just about a qb. never has been.

  • This program has been mediocre for generations? Duh! I, for one, am tired of it. Finally after all of the frustrations that so many of us have endured, we have a great chance to be much more than mediocre, but if this season continues on the path that it looks to be, exploration of a change at the top has to be looked at. I would hope that anyone would be able to see that. Heck, I don't know anymore, I guess some of you just don't get it.

  • Can you read, I said remain a middle of the pack program. And again, like I said, this program has the potential, really always has, to be more than what it is. So, if significant improvement is not made the second half of the season, a change needs to be made.

  • sccoastdude said... (original post)

It was told to me before recruiting is a gamble not all prospects turn out the way you hope. By the way how many times have you met or even seen Lambert play???? Let's leave the evaluation to guys that get paid to do it. As for you wanting to traid SOS with the recruting ties he has in the souteast with Gary Patterson is stupid.

Bottom line better qb play ad his offense will look great. I have been to every game and will continue also watched every replay on tv. Most all passing plays for the most part has open receivers and if excecuted right will score many points. The last time I checked as I stated above we are the east defending champs and still have the upper hand in repeating. Not 3rd or 4th as stated by you we will not see them days again. This my freind is because of our HBC GO COCKS!!!!!!

  • You know, that type of attitude is a big reason why we have always been mediocre. It just exemplifies acceptance of mediocrity. SAD

asking to fire a coach after 1 loss and after the school's FIRST SEC East title is SAD

  • I hope you all enjoy being average, it's obvious you're all willing to accept it.

nothing could be further from the truth. I'd rather switch qb's before I switched offensive coordinators. You do realize with Mangus calling plays last year we were a WHOPPING 7th in the conference in offense. That's with a 4th year quarterback, National Freshman of the Year in Lattimore and Jeffery.

Defending East champions and being 4-1 this year isn't average

  • Won the east with a 5-3 record, that's nothing to really brag about. And as far as us being 4-1, come see me at the end of the year. K pumpkin. Some of you have no clue....none at all. I'm out

We still won the east and 4-4 would be average, not 5-3. If doing something that has never been done for this program isn't something to brag about I don't know what is Pumpkin.

  • And that further proves my point about HBC. We were actually better offensively last year with Mangus calling the plays

why do we have that talent?

I am convinced that a ton of the posters that are bitching an moaning about Spurrier are 25 or younger. They were to young to remember Richard Bell, Sparky Woods, and Brad Scott. They didn't buy the "Great Scott" video after we won the Carquest Bowl.

The reality is that the best decision we made was hiring Holtz and Spurrier back to back. We needed coaches that were bigger than the program to raise our national profile for recruiting purposes. My feel is that our next coach will be a guy like a Malzahn who is a young innovative offensive mind. The only reason we would ever be able to make that hire is because a guy like Steve Spurrier built our program to where it is today.

I am as pissed as the next guy about Spurrier's insistence on playing Garcia and watching our offense sputter. Having said that lets give the guy a break because we needed him a hell of a lot more than he needed us.
