In this Daily 5, we take a look at prospects that South Carolina holds an advantage with and are most likely to be the next commitments.

  • Rolin would be a great addition. Just watched his film for the first time. Very impressive.

  • I am not going to lie but I am a little worried about some of these guys we have offered and a couple we have committed. Wouldn't most of these recruits still be available later in the year. We won 11 games last year. I don't think some of these recruits would be offered if EJ was still our defensive coordinator. It is sorta like the new coaches we hired they are projects. I know Steve will respond telling us that this recruit and that recruit is the best he has ever seen on film. You don't win championships taking project players.

  • Mitch and Rolin would be good pickups. Johnson seems like the same player as Turner.

Seems like we can hold off on the other 2 to see if we can land more elite players first. Especially with limited room in this class.

After the best 2 seasons USC has ever had it should be an easier sell for our coaches.

  • Our coaches recruit and offer players that fit our system, they don't offer them because they have a big offer list. Stop stargazing, Tony and JC have both backed up the fact Camara will fit in great at spur.

  • Let me correct something I don't mind taking project players as long as we only take a handful I just don't want to see a recruiting class like Lou Holtz final class. I am not saying anything negative about the recruits. It is just a little odd after we won 11 games.

Mangus was the one that scouted and offered the Kamara kid so that doesn't fall on the new coaches, but falls at the feet of a guy we praise as being one of the best recruiters on the staff. Ward is recruiting Johnson who had recruited that school heavily for at least the past 3 years recruitibg Cooper and Harrisso he's watched this kid since he was a soph.

You might be right, just don't think we should keep throwing fault at the new guys.

I assume you mean spur. Camara might end up an All-American.

Our spur coach was coaching tight ends in high school when we hired him.

Allen is about to be in the NFL. Holloman has a shot at the NFL next year. Those 2 along with Diggs had impressive offer lists, so don't give me "he's just a system player for us".

The fact we're coming off the best 2 years in school history combined with limited scholarships and in state dominance leads me to believe we can beat out schools more impressive than Jacksonville State and Western Kentucky.

If you're in the line of thinking that anyone we offer is excellent because we offered then there is nothing anyone will say that will change your mind. If the in state schools and other major BCS programs offer then I'll change mine. For now we can agree to disagree.

d-stew plays in the nfl now.

so we have put 2 spurs in the league--one highly touted (allen) and the other "a system player for us" (stewart) as you put it.

so your line of thinking doesn't support your point all that well imo.

Stars do mean something. Not necessarily for every recruit of course but if you look at the average star rating of the last 5 National Championship teams I would be surprised if they weren't ranked in at least the top 10 nationally in recruiting every year when all is said and done.

I have to agree with the other poster. Some of the guys are definite takes no doubt, but I don't understand why would we take a commitment from some of these guys so early in the year. If we have the year we expect to have, we should have no problem recruiting excellent athletes.

Atleast somebody understand what I was saying. I did not say anything negative about the recruit or bash them like some posters do. I just think it's too early in the recruiting process to take some of these commitments right now when they will probably still be there in 6 months. Heck if I had offers from a couple of Sun Belt Schools and a SEC team offered I would commit right then.

Dude said nobody else wants him and we only do because he fits our system.

My point was that it has less to do with our system and more to do with good players. Other schools want these guys who don't run our system along with teams in the NFL.

Stewart was a Cooper guy anyway. Plus he had BCS offers.

  • It will be fun watching you eat crow on Kamara. Dude blew up at a combine recently and spring evaluations just started. It doesn't matter though some on here will never be satisfied. Our coaches have proven time and again that they are good evaluators and we don't have a choice but continue to trust them on that. (Have they made some mistakes in evaluations? You betcha! Heck one of the coaches who missed was Wolford and everyone was going nuts over his hire!) Yes, we have new faces, but you nor I know if they can recruit, coach, gameplan etc. we will have to wait and see. I will say this though, I can guarantee you that Steve Spurrier isn't going to jeapordize his legacy or his remaining time by having a total "fish" on staff!

  • my take.

There's a lot more than star rankings to becoming a really good SEC player. The Taters have quite a few 4 & 5 star pospects. We've still mopeed the floor with them for 3 straight years. If our coaches look at a kid, see his measurables, but just as importantly get into the character of the kid and they are sold on him ..... I am sold on him.

the 6'1' 253 kid sounds a lot like Eric Norwood. That worked out pretty well for us. We've not only upgraded the roster talent-wise but character-wise as well. Put thiose 2 together and it spells winner in my book.

I am pretty confident we are not taking commits from projects rather that real prospects. Spurrier is doing it his way. He's doing it better than it's ever been done at USC while it the best football conference in America. I'm pretty certain he's not going to accept commits from guys who cannot play.
