Davis ready for friendly competition with Wilds

  • ftlaudcock said...

Don't sleep on what Shon Carson--if fully recovered--brings to the table.

In a perfect world Carson is fully recovered, serves as the change of pace guy, and Williams redshirts IMO

In a perfect world? I don't think he will play much football at South Carolina. His small frame cannot take the punishment. Durability is a big question with him and he does not have the burst to be a Lamichael James type player. Davis is the second level sprint to the sideline guy. I want to see if Wilds is ready to punish SEC linebackers at the second level like Marcus made a living doing. If Williams is as special as Marcus was then he will play, other than that they can make due with Davis, Wilds, and Salley.

I completely agree with you. If Williams is as special as Marcus, of course he should play and play early. But that is one heck of a standard. Being a great running back is more than just running the ball, if the opportunity presents itself for Williams to get more comfortable with the system and his blocking responsibilities, then that could only be a positive for his career as a Gamecock(and future NFL career) and the program.

  • As long as they both continue to push each other, i don't see why we can't have a running back by committee. Most great teams these days have two stellar backs. It distributes the load and leads to less wear and tear on the backs through the season. Wear the d down and throw the fresh guy in later. I'm geeked about this duo and i see a strong rushing attack for some time for Carolina! GO COCKS!!

Did one of our coaches say Carson will have to be a LaMichael James type player to get pt? Because I don't recollect hearing that.

And while you may think Carson isn't an elusive change of pace from more physical backs like Wilds and Davis, it seems our coaches feel otherwise judging from their comments during bowl practice.

U are correct, no coach did state that in those words. Those are my words, but i don't recollect any coach saying anything about any perfect worlds either. It is called an OPINION on a discussion board not the coaching staff quote board. And what they s aid about Shon at bowl practice is what made him MVP of the bowl game. The coaches are not going to say a guy is not an SEC caliber running back. Always spoke high of Miles and he barely had 1300 yards in 4 years at carolina and his 100 yard games came against Wofford, Vandy, Kentucky, and Clemson. Don't get me wrong i love all gamecock players, just voicing my OPINION and I don't believe this guy will ever be an effective back in the SEC. He will be playing just baseball real soon and that will be sweet because we need some extra spots for next years class. Guess what? The staff will not say that either but that does not make it true!!!!

You would do well to take your own advice.

Don't get your panties in a wad because somebody On The interwebz disagrees with your ill conceived opinion that The book is closed On Carson, And cites to comments from coaches to Support that disagreement.

Crafty internet slang is a good sign of someone who tends to wear panties buddy. If u want to type stupid rebuttals to subscribers fact supported opinions then go to the PERFECT WORLD of taterville where a team has better coaches, talent, and fans than we do. That is a joke, i just could not think of a crafty, panty wearing, tater way of saying this. In conclusion, football is more than a team gets 7 points when they cross a particular white line on a field and you would do well to educate yourself on the game in order to develop your own opinions instead of bolstering like you are a football fan by throwing around coaches comments. TOPIC CLOSED!

Small frame? He is 5'8" 215lbs. He also runs legit 4.3. Shon will contribute this year as a RB. He's bigger and stronger than Lamichael James, and a different type back. He's much more physical. I am not going to write off a guy that we have never even seen play before, besides 4 or 5 snaps.

So we are in fact talking about fourth string running backs. That means he will not play unless we have the large amounts of injuries we have had the last two years. If that happens it w ill be just like it has in the past, Connor will have more yards rushing per game than Miles, oh I mean Shon.

Hahaha. Yeah some of these self styled football experts/educators have never heard of an RB with that frame being able to play grown man football.

I recommend you not disagree with them on the internetz though unless you want to risk them doubling up on the Midol.

Yeah, that's the way I read it. I think Carson could be a contributor, but it would probably mean that bad things happened to the other guys if he ends up getting the lions share of carries. Remember though, we probably wouldn't be so high on Wilds if Miles hadn't been out when Marcus went down the first time. That's the beauty of finally having good depth, we could end up with a completly different backfield and not have it blow up the season.

He is 5'8" 215 lbs! Legit 4.3! You guys are confusing me with this Perfect world stuff. He may be 5'6.5" 185 lbs. Ace Sanders was also running that legit 4.3 until he went to the combine and ran a 4.6. Physical like having season ending injuries the first two times he participates in live SEC action. I am done with this topic. If Going out and catching two screens for 1 yard and Dillon having more rushing yards than you is called contributing than i stand corrected.

Oh know you think you have a little support of the other followers so you are coming up with some other crafty sayings. You are the one turning it into something it is not. We are back to where we started. Never said that a guy of that size can not play grown man football. I just stated that he would never play much at carolina because he does not have the frame of a Ray Rice or the change of pace skills of Lamichael James. With that being said, I love open conversations such as this one. Not taking offense to good opinionated statements from fellow football followers. It is little terds like panty having and midol users like u and the My God idiot I feed on.

That is going to be a battle, right there. I bet Wilds weighs 240 by the time he's a senior.

You need two good RBs in any league. But the guy who will play the most will be the one who blocks the best. Can't get your QB killed just bc one is a better runner.
