Ward is a former DB, who has coached secondaries his entire career, and our pass defense only picked up this year when Whammy had his way and played more Man-2-Man coverage.

If Ward knows one thing, it's secondaries.

And I keep returning ot the fact that he had two stints under EJ and a very long run at V. Tech under Beamer. I doubt he is as "In-Over-His-Head" as some of you make it out to be...

I agree and not only continuity on the staff, but Ward would also likely run the same scheme which we have recruited and developed for, especially with the SPUR concept.

Don't you think Oklahoma recruiting has as much to do with their success as the position coaches? I'm sure he's good, I'm just not going to crucify SOS for giving Ward a shot, when I expect he's talked the situation through with his friend and understands where they each stand, at least better than we do.

If the defense comes out and plays shut out ball against a very good Nebraska Offense Ward deserves a shot at the job. With that said Stoops is already a proven defensive coach he was a DC for a national title team. Stoops Defense is a lot like EJ it wouldn't be a huge change if we don't promote from within he's the best choice. Ward is still unproven as a DC it would be a huge gamble to give him full control of the defense. We are finally a top program in the SEC and we have top coaches wanting to come here to coach. This is a very important hire that should not be taken lightly which I'm sure SOS want take it lightly so what ever is decided I believe will be the best for the team. IMO I want Stoops to be the next DC he has proven he is a very good defensive coach that is what we need. We need a staff like Alabama where the assistants could be head coaches at some schools. Stoops being a head coach for 7 years and a proven DC that says a lot to recruits and other schools.

Coaching up your unit and game planning against an offense are two completely different things. Sure, he has worked with coaches doing that, but how many times has he actually sat down and prepared an entire defense against an opposing team by himself with complete control? I actually agree with you on Ward's track record as a position coach. He has very little, if any, track record when coming up with actual game plans to shut down opposing offenses by himself. That is what has people up in arms here.
