Was 2011 Gatorade national player of the year. How come we didn't offer?

He wasn't national Gatorade player of the year. He was south Carolina's. McEvoy was in the fold and Spurrier wanted someone more mobile.

Because he has extremely limited upside and isn't a good fit for Mangus (who is recruiting QBs that fit his spread-style system). I'm not an expert on recruiting, but I think he compares favorably to Chris Smelley.

Spurrier does not recruit QB's based on HS accolades, he never has. He picks out one or two who throw the ball the way he likes and believes he can get them to play well in his system. Grossman wasn't a big time recruit and neither was Danny Weurffel. He got McEvoy last year and Nosovitch this year.

Truthfully, a lot of people think that Worley is a product of a pass-happy Texas Tech like system that inflates the stats. Who knows? Kid has good size for a QB though.

Worley was the national Gatorade player of the year and not just SC's.

I saw Worley play in person probably around 5 times in his HS career and was never really impressed. The most impressive thing about him was that he made good decisions about who to throw the ball to. But then again it always seemed like he had plenty of time due to the offense that they ran so he never seemed to be under pressure much. He had a very weak arm in HS but I'm sure it's gotten stronger by now. He's not the type of quarterback that will beat you with the deep ball since his lack of arm strength. He's a dink and dunk type of QB that will hit the 5-10 yard passes on you all day long. If we get pressure on him I think he folds like a cheap lawn chair.

That was Brock Berlin, Grossman was not a five star he was from Indy Anna but he was still highly rated.

Pretty sure the five star blue chip qb from Shreveport was Brock Berlin who ended up at Miami after transferring. Grossman was from somewhere like Indiana.

Grossman was from Indiana and had to beg coaches to look at his film. After sending film to Florida and not getting a response he and his dad hand delivered film to SOS. That impressed SOS so much he gave him a chance. Remember hearing Spurrier say that.

This. Spurrier didn't recruit Indiana, so Grossman never got a look. He had to recruit UF.
It will he interesting to see how Worley progresses at UT. I assume we're making good decisions on QBs. Proof will be in the pudding though.

Grossman was highly rated, but he wanted to play for spurrier so he had his dad send his film to him since spurrier didn't recruit Indiana. He had multiple other major offers.
Berlin was the five star from Louisiana.

Both Grossman and Wuerffel were highly rated recruits.
Several have touched on Grossman.
In regards to Wuerffel (from Wiki)..."In football, he led the Vikings to an undefeated season as a senior quarterback, while winning the Florida Class 4A state football championship in 1991 and earning the No. 2 national ranking in USA Today. Wuerffel was widely considered the top high school football recruit in the state of Florida, and USA Today's high school player of the year in Florida during his senior year."
