Does Davis or Wilds gets redshirted this year.

  • Discuss. I wouldnt mind seeing them both get ridshirted if Miles comes back.

  • No chance on wilds

    uscrudd

  • It's sort of an unwritten rule that if you contribute to the team on the field one year, from then on you are only red shirted for an injury. In the game NCAA '13 both would be red shirted.

It would be best for both to red shirt imo. Also keep in mind Carson had beaten Wilds out last year before his injury. See no need for Wilds to waste a year on just a few carries.

Have to wait and see how it plays out in practice. Wilds was a starter half of the season and did really well. He may be the clear second. Don't know much about Carson at this point

  • neither 1 will red shirt

  • WIlds isnt redshirting....He was a beast on the kickoff team until Latt got hurt...I would luv for MD28 to redshirt but dont know how its gonna work out...if MD28 were to redshirt I hope he doesnt get a bad attutude about it....hes the future for sure.....

  • I was just thinking how we are going to split carries with Carson, Davis, Lattimore, Miles, and Wilds.

I must say this is a great problem to have. You know when your team is good is when you are too worried about having too many good RB's on the team.

  • I really dont think its going to happen. I mean Latti, and Carson both coming off of ACL injuries.

That is a good point about him on special teams. He was good, wasn't he?

Running back will be one of the most interesting positions, along with receiver, to see how it shakes out. With MD coming in with so much talent, I would like him to redshirt. Part of me wants to see him tote the rock some as well.

I am also very excited about Carson. We have not had speed like that at RB in a while. A big play threat is good to have.

Receiver will be almost as interesting. With KJ, Shamiere, Damiere, Bruce, Ace, DL, and D. Smith, it will be interesting enough. Add in Fuller, Smith, and the x-factor in Shaq Roland, and it will make you dizzy thinking about it.

Its gonna be an interesting month before the first game.

You're basically assuming that Wilds didn't improve since last spring by saying that Carson had beaten Wilds out last year. Not to mention that Carson had a very serious knee injury and there's a possibility that he may never be as good as he once was. I hope that's not the case but I'm just stating the reality of it.

  • We may play more two back sets.Let the other teams figure out if we're running Latti,Wilds or Shaw.

    BobbyLee

  • Think we should redshirt Davis. With Lattimore, Miles, Carson, and Wilds all ahead of him (right now at least), I think it'd be the best move. I mean, Oregon redshirted that really good RB they got in 2010 (the one that transferred back to Baylor). He was a top 5 RB yet they redshirted him. Just cause a guy is a great talent doesn't mean that he has to play immediately.

    usc50

  • If they tell Mike he's gonna be redshirted, he's out IMO.

    a7xrox

  • U redshirt the freshman....and Carson should be fine...an acl injury is similar to Tommy johns in that it heals stronger than before...saying that I think Carson should be fine to play...Marcus may not have enough time at least at the beggining of the season but you cannot keep wilds off the field since he has proven he can carry the ball but Davis will probably see a redshirt unless he is just phenominal in practice

    runupgetdoneup

  • I would redshirt Davis. The key would be selling him on why redshirted would benefit him.

Lattimore has 2 more years left(at the most) and you can be a RS-Soph( or RS-FR) after he leaves which will give you 3 or 4 years to tote the rock at Carolina.

I think he can beat out Wilds and Carson after Lattimore leaves.

But, last year everyone was saying Wilds would redshirt and look what happened so at the RB position, you never know.

  • Dont forget miles used to be a starter too. Not saying wilds will rs but i think he moves to fb because his touches will drop, just like miles did. Mike Davis will be #2 from the start, he is that good. To me carson is the odd man out, he may get a reverse or 2 a game but id break it down like this...

    Lattimore 20-25 carries
    Davis 7-10
    Miles 5
    Carson 2-3

Carson probably gets a look at KR when he is ready. No knock on wilds, he was a huge part of our success last year but davis amd carson are just flat out better. That and we have a big need for an expiriencer player at fb.

    carolinainsider

  • I could see carson redshirting again. If the first is medical he can redshirt again medically especially since the injury is documented. My gut says noone redshirts by midseason MD will be contributing a good bit i think. Rbs are good for special teams too as previously mentioned on Wilds, they typically have a good mix of size speed that makes them ideal like lbs on special teams providing they have a nose for it.

I remember Spurrier really talking up Carson last year in the pre season. He was very excited about Shon's speed and big play ability. Also remember that Carson is an absolute TANK. I saw him on campus a couple of weeks ago, and he looks like a sweatsuit stuffed with bowling balls. The guy can power through holes too. He was #2 last year before he got injured.

  • Here's the good news: We could have NASTY two back set - imagine being a defensive coordinator knowing that you could possibly have to deal with any of the WR's, Lattimore on one side of a qb who can run, and Carson/Wilds/Miles/Whoever on the other. More so - imagine being the LB's of the opposing team trying to decipher which way it's going!

Woah. I really hope we see a lot of this formation next year, talk about putting play makers on the field.

  • I love how most of the posters in this thread have a selective memory. Wilds got passed by Miles at the end of last season. So IMO, he is already behind Lattimore and Miles and sitting at 3rd string at best. If we have a lot of two back sets, I think you will see more of Miles. Now the coaching staff could turn Wilds into more of a H-back and shift him around a lot in the backfield(I cant see him lining up at TE at all) to get him some PT. But then again, they may not do that at all with Wilds. But I think if we are running two backs and one of the two positions is not a specialized position, then i cant see Wilds getting on the field much in those situations.

As for the redshirt, its not going to happen unless their is an injury, and as we know from last year, there will be injuries at the RB position. I dont see Davis getting one either, I think he plays a lot on special teams with guys like Wilds and Miles(kickoff coverage and return, as blockers) as well as being a 4th quarter, game is already over guy. I believe Miles has been on the return and coverage teams for the last two seasons, no reason why Davis and Wilds cant help there.

We have a great problem here guys. We have five, let me say that again FIVE, guys who can contribute and compete on the SEC level at RB. I dont think we have EVER had this kind of depth. The only thing I can think of is when we had Brewer, Pinnock and Watson. But those three were all different kinds of backs, while our current guys are much more similar in running styles. I love that this is a "problem" for us.

He played a lot when Lattimore was out right. Lattimore is back now.
