Duce, George or Marcus

  • Who would you take with the national championship on the line to start and play the majority of the game? I'll take Marcus bc he breaks out this year Heisman style bank it.

  • Guaranteed to be healthy a whole game, I would take Marcus.

  • No-brainer. I think Marcus is the best football player in the history of our program.

  • George

  • Marcus has better vision..better catching outta backfield and intangibles. George was better at everything else. At this point I would say George..give Marcus another two years and I have little doubt he will change my mind.

Ha, it's at least "some" brainer. We are talking about a Heisman trophy winner. A #1 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Don't let the fog of years gone by diminish the greatness of George Rogers.

South Carolina Gamecocks. The 2010 National College Baseball Champs.

  • Thank You....love all three and proud they are all Gamecocks but there isn't anything close about this....George Rogers!!!

But I have not seen Marcus as a Senior yet so..............

bAy ....you are one season to early. No way Spurrier puts the load required on Marcus to win it this season. And didn't you hear Dabo has already said that Sammy "idropit" Watkins has it won this year.

Hey did anyone else hear that dude on 560 Tuesday mid-day say that Clemson has 4 or 5 other players as good if not better than Watkins at receiver....he also guaranteed a Tiger win this coming season over USC. You just have to smile at em when they attempt to talk.......smoke

  • Gotta go with George...I am too young to have seen him in his prime but legend says him.

  • I'd take Marcus. He's racked up his mileage against SEC competition behind a so-so OL.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

  • Its close as hell between Marcus and George. Both of them left footprints on many a dawg's face.

Those are 3 great players at South Carolina. It really just comes down to George and Marcus in my opinion.

Right now I have to go with George. He has some hardware. Hopefully Marcus joins him on stage soon.

I would feel good with any of them though.

I think we may learn the age of some of our posters in this thread also. If you never saw George play then you can't appreciated what he did. There was nobody that could bring him down one on one. He would either go by you or just run over you like a truck. He was an incredible player.

  • Right now I'd take George over Marcus but barely and I think if Marcus stays healthy this season I might change my mind. And no one else has mentioned it but I'd take Harold Green over Duce as the third best back.

    jparke23

  • The thing is, the game has changed dramatically. Marcus is more fit for todays game. George is more fit for the style played in the early 80s. George would probably be a linebacker or DE in today's game, not a running back. I'd take Marcus. Can he break an 80 yard run up the middle like George could? No. But he can string together ten 8 yard runs and break the defenses spirits. And if need be the quarterback can drop back and lob him the ball on a screen or anything else, and he'll be sure to catch it and turn upfield. I know George was a great back, a phenominal back even, but in today's game, running backs don't go first overall, and rookies don't lead the NFL in rushing because of the two back system. And heck, even in college there's a two back system, and in a lot of cases the quarterback steals a lot of the carries.

I'd also take Harold Green or Brandon Bennett over Duce, although I do like Duce.

    My final answer is...

    Marcus, all the way.

  • BIG GEORGE by a mile...faster, bigger, and tougher...no knock on ML but George had it ALL. To say that GR would be a DE or LB in todays game is just plain DUMB.

George! 6'3 230-240. Run a 4.5-4.6. Heisman winner. #1 draft pick. Led the NFL his rookie year in rushing. Jim Brown said george is a top 10 RB all time NFL. He could have had 2000 yards as a senior. We took him out at halftime vs 3 or 4 teams.

  • You have to take George.
1,000 yards in 8 games splitting time with Wright (two back system) - who I might take before Duce
    1600 yards to follow up
    1800 yards to follow up

The great college running backs of that time are Campbell, George and Walker.

And hell, yes he could break for 80 yards and do it running over people. Marcus is a special player but George is the standard. I think with all is said and done both will be 1A and 1B

I love Marcus, but us George by a long shot.

Some that assume it is automatically Marcus could not have watched Goerge Rogers play. Guy was amazing. Was amazing in the pros before he got old quick due to being beat up. Led entire nFL in rushing as a rookie. When he retired, he was 10th or 11th all time in rushing yards in the history of the league.

    George was the man.
