Those people did not know what they were talking about. EJ has always wanted one more shot at being a head coach. He wanted to make sure he went to the right situation where he had an honest chance to win. He also wanted it to be a Div. 1 school. USM while not a BCS school does provide him with the resources to win .He and his wife both liked it here very much and EJ and SOS had a good mutual respect for each other. They both liked Starkville while there and EJ has stated more than once he enjoyed his time at USM.
