ESPN just showed Kentucky's basketball recruits for next year.

  • Wow, just reloads again.....They just got the #1 player in the country....Say what you want about Calipari but the guy can flat out recruit.

  • Coach Cal is a boss.

  • Recruiting to Ky for basketball is about as hard of time Saban has at Alabama. Makes it really easy when u have a rich tradition. Foundation was laid a long time ago.

This is exactly why UF recruits so well. It wasn't like that until the 90's. There was no tradition or foundation until SOS got there and established those things. Which is what he's doing here. If SC had the high school talent pool that the state of FL has, it would not have taken him 6-7 years like it did with us. I really hope he stays here 4-5 more years. After that, we should be able to attract a high profile coach to replace him and continue with the foundation and tradition established by SOS. IMO, we need 4-5 more years of high level success (minimally 10 win seasons with a couple of BCS bowl appearances thrown in). If we can win the SEC or a NC, even better.

  • Calipari has excellent ties with the AAU coaches. And being as shady as a mossy oak helps too. IMO, he is the biggest crook in all of college athletics. NCAA needs to change the one and done crap too.

  • he can flat out recruit. in addition, taking a young man onto your college campus for a part of a year to win a title then say adios for the next batch, this is indeed winning but it sure aint amateur athletics in my book.

universities are hiring gunslingers, hired guns for the season. if the schools can keep a few chess masters on the end of the bench for grade and graduation purposes, and the coach avoids any bobby petrino stuff, then its all good

not for me its not. it sucks. its a mockery of college. pretend its about education. no, we know better.

with aau coaches and bagmen and agents and handlers, the stench is something you get used to when you win.

All were first round draft picks and all spent 4 years in college. Bring back the good ole days of college basketball

Agree. No doubt he's a great Coach, but let's face it, the program sells itself, and even if they ever get a less than stellar coach, the hoops crazed fan base would spare no expense to keep the pipeline coming. The kind that doesn't even need a coach to be successful.

That's ok, as long as we keep them in their place in the food chain in football, and we'll be closing the gap in hoops soon I believe.

  • Cal is a great recruiter, shady or not...probably shady, let's face it.
But his biggest selling point...and I don't mean this as bad as it sounds...is his lack of coaching. Kids like Rose, Wall, A.Davis...they are showing up to college "NBA ready," they just need somebody to not get in their way.
Cal is not going to exploit your weaknesses, he's not going to break you down to build you back up. He's going to stand by and let you do what you do best.
The downside to that is, you never really get challenged to develop as a player.
But most of them aren't really all that interested in that anyway, they want the clearest path to a payday. And Cal gives them that.

  • Calipari is good at what he does. I dont like the guy much either, but he recruits top notch talent that is NBA bound regardless, and coaches them up to get ready for the draft. I think him and his program has helped the draft stock of a lot of guys along the way. Think of him as a personal trainer that trains guys for the draft for a year, and you'll be fine with it.

Cal is also upfront about what he is doing, he is playing within the rules and helping players at the same time - And he wins.

  • Only a matter of time until KY is in trouble. It has happened at his only 2 college stops. Both teams had to forfiet their Final Four appearance. So let him do what he wants. I hate him as much as i hate Clemson. This didnt just start recently. I hated him at U Mass. He will get his. KY will be on probation in basketball soon.

It's the NBA and players union that has the one and done. The colleges would love for the kids to stay 3 years at least.

  • it may be that at Kentucky ,with its tradition and appeal......he may not have to cheat. I admire the way Kentucky plays BB. Watching them play for the title....was inspiring and sad. sad because it showed just how far the Gamecocks have fallen .

  • Coach Cal's biggest sell is that he is very open to one and done players and has a proven history of team success in that one year and getting his players drafted high afterwards. I think the biggest credit to he and his staff, whether you like him or not, is how effective he is at taking all these stars and having them check their star status at the door, molding them quickly into a team that competes for the National Title year in and year out with news sets of players.

One of the greatest basketball coaches of all time is Adolph Rupp (UK-Rupp Arena). One of the greatest football coaches of all time is Bear Bryant (UA - Bryant-Denny Stadium, was at UK before UA). Funny how they both coached at Kentucky and now their programs have absolutely no problem getting whoever they want. Calipari's job is easy. Find who he wants. Offer a scholly. Say "come to UK and lets win a championship in your freshman year with the other monsters I'm recruiting, then you can go pro and make millions by the time you're 19. Oh and I don't mind if you leave because I'm just going to get the next great player in line. Thank you and have a nice day! Call me!" Saban's already got most of his work cut out for him too.
