ONE player under Scott Earley has signed with Clemson and that's Spencer Benton, a kicker. We have a former Earley player, another kicker, on our roster as a walk on. Andrew Power, a Carolina walk on TE who transferred and will now enroll at Tenn next year is also a former Earley player. He's had two guys sign with VT (Brandon Frye, who's in the NFL, and Bruce Thomas, a current VT LB). As we are all aware, Golson is going to UNC - a place he's always dreamed of playing bball (he'll be allowed to play both).

Earley pulls for Clemson over Carolina as a fan, but he isn't sitting in Lexington cackling as he concocts ways to lure players away from Columbia. There's zero evidence to support the overwhelming amount of message board talk about how much of a Clemson guy he is. He's from NC and went to Gardner-Webb.

I didn't mean any offense to you in my post. It has just been surprising to see how much concern there's been about Earley when there's just nothing there to back it up other than that he is a Clemson fan. I'm sure half the coaches in the state are Tigers.

The Benton kid's family are huge Clemsonites. It wouldn't have mattered if Earley was a Gamecock from birth on him. I believe the only players we've offered that he's coached are Thomas and Golson. Neither came to us, but neither went to Clemson, either.

Do you remember Early's comments while at MB directed at USC when he didn't understand why we didn't offer Jamere Valentine who wound up at Ga. Southern? Do you remember Early's comments after MB won the state championship at Clemson? I saw, heard and read his shenanigans during his MB tenure and I wouldn't be surprised by anything he did including discretely steering players away from USC.

Can you imagine getting beat by Clemson twice in the CWS and sent home, only for them to later win the NC? It would be awful. I'm glad they experienced it.

If you don't think Early pushed his players to Clemson you are kidding yourself. I have friends that have Coached with him that tell me different.
