Sorry, but I disagree. I think the Big 12 money would more than makeup for the added cost of travel. I've seen discussed that the revenue benefit would be in the $10-15 million mark...each year. Added travel for being in that conference would probably be in the $2mil area.
I do think that it benefits Clemson to leave the acc for either conference. The SEC would be their dream. But keep dreaming. Not going to happen. Big 12 would be a big improvement from the acc. I do think it would be a big setback for them as they transitioned to a tougher schedule. Not sure how long it would take to become competitive. Probably a 5-10 yr window.

They will also probably lose some ticket revenue on home games as well since the attendance from Big12 teams traveling to Clemson will be less than what they get from the ACC teams. It will not be easy for Big 12 teams to get to Clemson from a logistical or monetary standpoint. Many ACC teams are able to drive in.

I really havent been keeping up with all of it until recently but it made me think of a few things.
If the big 12 adds two teams being FSU and Clemson, Clemson will not make anymore money because of their extra expenses. We will always have the upper hand on them as long as they are not in the SEC. They could make the same amount but have to spend much more. Their fans are the ones that will be screwed, now almost every game will be a flight and car rental for every away game. If they get left out of the SEC and Big 12 then they will certainly get passed by if FSU and another big time team leaves the ACC due to espn most likely reworking the tv contract. If NC state goes to the sec, their recruiting will pick up and make it harder for both us and clemson to recruit in nc which I am not really in favor of, and same for VT, they would make it much harder to recruit the NE if VT was in the SEC.
So for clemson they have two choices, beg the SEC to let them in or pray that FSU stays in the ACC and they find a way for their conference not to be left out. Either way, we will always be ahead of them, as long as we keep them out of the SEC. If we keep the NC teams out of the SEC then our recruiting will just keep getting better and better in that state with the ACC's perception looking like the big east or a-10.

If the Big 12 stops at 12 teams, then I think this is not a good deal for clemson... but, I think the Big 12 is going to be the Big 14 or the Big 16... If they end up raiding the Acc for Ga Tech and Miami or Ga Tech and VA Tech then you may have a situation that would be tolerable.... EAST Clemson, FSU, WVU, Ga Tech, Va Tech, Iowa State, Okla State
West Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech
The only really close schools would be Ga Tech and Va Tech..... the rest would be a haul. Any way... I think the above scenario creates a pretty good league with some intriguing matchups....the real thing in all this is.... Will Texas share the wealth?? I think the way Texas operates makes UNC and Duke look pretty tame.
