FITS News: Garcia partied hard in Atlanta for Chick-fil-A Bowl

  • MrBigAl said...

It appears that the thousands of Gamecock fans who spent thousands of dollars to follow the team to Atlanta were more committed to winning than Garcia was. Not that this story comes as a surprise.

Its not like that has been the case since he has been here sarcasm

  • if you found out this exact thing also happened before the Alabama game would you reconsider hating on the guy?

  • This happened guys, I've heard about it myself, just not the specifics which are acutally pretty cool.

I'm just glad the State didn't report this or God forbid Joe Person. All the loonies would come out of the woodwork about this "hit piece" and the media's "agenda"

Interesting that the coaches or other players didn't know about this or hear any noise. I also doubt that DiMarco, being his roommate and everything, participated in such things before the last game of possibly his entire football career. Soooooo, until I hear this from reliable, USC-associated sources, I'm going to take it with a very large grain of salt.

Are you sure you want to be so skeptical? I mean, it was on the Internet.

I agree with you. Unless a USC source says it happened, I'm inclined not to believe it. SOS is not above playing a third stringer in any circumstance.

So you think SOS would rather lose to FSU, probably his most hated team, than play a player he that didnt listen to him? Really?? I guess you think SOS doesnt have an ego also.

If that were the case, Bama would have won. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize that.

  • I'm with you HELLROOSTER, we would have heard about this a long time ago. I personally think if this is true, SOS would not have let Garcia play, period. People want to beleive this story because of SG's past. But again, even with his past, I have a hard time beleiving Garcia would be this stupid. Nobody in the football program would have let this happen, especially in his own hotel room, RIGHT NEXT TO EVERYONE ELSE! He had a bad game, and it sucked. But I'm not willing to beleive this was the reason. I have faith in SOS that he would have benched SG so fast it this was true. Remeber the Outback Bowl, SOS ripped him a new one for playing Call of Duty the night before. What do you think he would have done if he saw this???

I absolutely understand where you are coming from, but it did say that he Highway Patrol did confirm the incident. Also, why would any source related to USC release that info? What good could come of that?

Actually, it said "sources close to the SC Highway Patrol" confirmed. It sounds nit-picky, but there is a big difference. Regardless, as in many situations, where there's smoke...

Shouldn't you be asking for proof of this incident, as you do when folks argue that cheating is going on at other schools?

Actually it doesn't say that. It says sources CLOSE to the highway patrol, whatever that means. It specifically says that the highway patrol wouldn't confirm the story.
The entire thing reads like a "We're hearing this" "Supposedly that happened..."
In other words, they don't seem to be able to prove any of it.
IF it's true, then I'm sure Spurrier will give Shaw every chance to win that job and then some.

Proof as in the sources mentioned? it's a lot better sourced than a post which simply reads "$$$$."

  • This is why we need Shaw to win the QB postion Garcia just doesn't have the drive to work hard all year. He thinks he's a rock star. This team could be so much if we had a driven QB like Shaw. I hope this story isn't true Garcia should have a little more respect for his team mates and coaches.

I don't know what SOS thinks. My point is simply that there is no confirmation this happened. One guy who heard about it from a couple of people is not very compelling to me. What I do know is that actions speak louder than words and despite this alleged drunken partying incident, there has not been a single suspension, prohibition from team activities, etc.

Why the heck does SOS keep putting up with it? What seems more reasonable to you; (1) SOS has decided to completely abandon the concept of discipline for SG, or (2) these stories about people hearing things are grossly exaggerated or not true?

I know what your answer is because you clearly are biased against Garcia and would choose to believe some guy on the Internet behind a keyboard rather than look at the actions of coaches and players.

If this is confirmed, I will be the first person to say I was wrong and Garcia acted poorly and should be punished. Until it's confirmed, perhaps we can all exercise a little discretion before we throw our own under the bus.

  • CockatLaw- What rules did he break? If he was in the hotel room, he wasnt out past curfew. Non teammates in room after a certain time may be a rule. He is 21 so getting drunk isnt against the rules. SOS is putting up with it because he doesnt have a real reason to give him the boot. He comes to practice, he goes to class. He just likes to get hammered and doesnt like to work hard. Neither of which are grounds for dismissal.
This is why Shaw needs to win the job.
